Aye.

Who's saying KT won't be a one-man club?

Lot of chat/accusations about KT's behaviour. I'll wait and see. And no doubt I'll get the chat on the Wishy Emerald at the start of the season.

If we are offered £30 million plus sell on for Tierney we are almost obliged to take it. He would be worth over the total value of every player in the Scottish league outside us.

And - at that fee - he'll go with Celtic's best wishes.

Something about this scenario seems a bit odd.

Participation in CL group stage will be worth c.£30m next season.

3 of our first team starters are at World Cup - 2 still participating are 1st choice defenders. Lawwell and Rodgers would need to be idiots to push for a £25m transfer that could jeopardise CL money, especially when we are relatively cash rich.

i dont think the suggestion is him being pushed out the door though

Didn't you say it was taking it too far to compare KT to Armstrong, who you then referred to as a mercenary?

The only inference is that they're acting exactly the same, while you seem to see some difference.
They are hardly acting the same, ffs.

Tierney signed a long term contract which maximises the fee we get, if he goes.

Stuart Armstrong signed his typically short contract followed by a 12 month extension leaving the ball in his court (as he did at Dundee Utd).

Okay, this all started when I said that Tierney would be remembered similarly to Stuart Armstrong, rather than the likes of McGrain or McStay, ie players with a real Celtic legendary status.

How we got from that to the difference in the lengths of contracts being the main criteria for a gulf in your perception of the players, only you can answer.

Armstrong has actually played more games for Celtic than Tierney. He's won one title more. He's won one more League Cup. This is what I was talking about.

You've got a bee in your bunnet about Armstrong, so didn't like to see KT compared to him.

There is little substantial difference in their leaving either. Both are going at the first sniff off money. You can dress it up or justify it in a dozen different ways, but if KT has engineered a move, then there is zero difference between their leaving. Their careers at Celtic are almost the exact same length. The comparison is pretty evident.

Tierney signing a six year deal last year wasn't simply done for our benefit for when Everton or someone might come calling. He got a huge pay rise out of it.

His 'legacy' will be the trophies he contributed to. Same as McGeady, or VVD. People who like talking about money will maybe remember it in what we got as a fee. But if we don't invest it wisely (and punt Dembele too) then their transfer fees will be utterly pointless if we lose 40m by failing to get into the Champions League.

Players move on. That's fine. I'm sure I'll get over it pretty quickly if the club get some quality replacements for the weakest part of the team. My expectation of that is low, given what's happened in that department in the last five windows.

On a separate point, between this story and the Dembele one in January, something seems askew. As I said elsewhere, all of the above is based on Tierney being the one who pushed for a move.

If the club are turning us into an open market, when we've had unprecedented cash coming in from the CL and three seasons of sold out season tickets, have a bank balance of about 30million, then that's something to be concerned about. Just who is behind this genius strategy? If Rodgers is not on board with it, then he might not be ruling himself out of any decent EPL gigs next time Arsenal or the like are looking for someone.

It's hard to 'build for the future' if someone upstairs is booting away the foundations of the team.

The operative word in that post is of course 'if'.

Aye, true. He's either being punted when he'd rather stay, or he's actively looking for a move.

Otherwise, Everton would be getting told to bolt with what is, IMO, a relatively low offer, even if it is a record. Just as VVD's was way too low.

If we get a 30 per cent sell on fee, maybe we can see if whoever is interested is interested in him as a player, or turning over a quick profit in a year's time. In which case, we'll know we're underselling him.

Are the posters getting info about KT or his families inclination to go getting info from club sources or family sources?

It`s not beyond the club to feed sources BS it`s been done before.(Dembele in January springs to mind, where initial impressions were he wanted to go, but then we/he heard it was Brighton)

Just interested, I`ll still be disappointed if its an Everton or similar for under 20/25 million, anything significantly over that, "stratospheric" I think Brendan said, and a top 6 EPL and you`d struggle to come up with a good argument against it, if thats what he genuinely wants.

Life`s not all about money though for some people and even some players, ask Broony or one or two others who could probably have made significantly more elsewhere but were happy up here.

Tierney will simply break his contract by mutual agreement with the club. Just like Armstrong did last week.

You don't change your mind that easily that quickly, though. IF he wants to go or we want to sell then surely we won't be taking the first fecking bid.

The footballing world has changed beyond recognition since Scott Brown was the next big thing in 2007. I doubt he'd make the same decision today.
