I laughed when someone said we were a cut back team last year but this lad can actually hit the byline which makes it possible.

He misread the bounce of the ball.

Can happen to even the most experienced of players.

Excellent attacking performance today.
And you could see how much he was broken up over it.
Exactly. Not nice to see the boy so upset about it but good to see he genuinely cares about every error he makes.

At fault for their goal but otherwise very impressive.

Composed on the ball ,excellent timing in the tackle - every time he goes to ground he wins the ball - great short burst of pace that gives him the chance to pass or cross without getting blocked.

Doesn't mess around - if there is not a pass to play he clears his lines.

Having seen him a few times with the under 19's / development squad prior to this year I admit I couldn't quite see what all the fuss was about - delighted to be proved wrong.

You can tell how mentally strong he is. Made a mistake that cost us a goal then got his head down and setup our winner. Most of our more established pros make a mistake and then disappear for the rest of the game (or make even more mistakes).

It was a terrible error.

That said I thought he was decent again. Great at going forward.

Awful defending for their goal.

That aside, I actually thought yesterday was his best performance so far.

He's always been a sturdy defender and very good in the tackle but his game going forward is improving all the time. Some great cut backs yesterday and also very unliucky not to score with that long range effort.

I love his attitude. He could become a big player for us.

McGrain played before my time, but am I right in saying he was the best full back in the world at one point?

Kieran Tierney is doing great at the moment and all the signs are encouraging however I don't think we should get too carried away yet, many players have showed great potential at 18 and gone on to do the square root of eff all in their careers. Got a good feeling this won't be the case with Tierney though. :)
Depends who you ask - if you ask me then yes, for some time you could argue that Danny was as good as any full back in World football
No one ever got the better of him and he played against some great footballers at both Club and International level over a long career.

I felt really sorry for him at their goal - misjudged the bounce. Apart from that he was immense as usual - great going forward.

He needs to play in a settled unit at the back , then the creases will be ironed out. Very good performance yesterday.

Just noticed this on the club site.

"I was at the League Cup semi-final last year. I didn’t get a ticket through the club, I went with my supporters’ bus. It was during the time when I was out with a broken leg but I still wanted to go. I just patched my crutches."

So far, he seems like a great antidote to many of the bawbags who populate football these days. The black boots, playing with a broken leg and getting man of the match, walking home after the trophy celebrations with a fish supper, doing a shift as a hod carrier before going into school and then back to training at lunchtime. Great tackler too.

The boy is a breath of fresh air, old school mentality. I hope to God he doesn't change and keeps grounded. Having one of our own as a star is always that bit more special.

Given his success, surely we should be trying to blood more young players through from the youth team. We win the youth / development league every year but not many seem to break through.

Is it a lack of oppurtunites or lack of quality?

Edit: Spelling

Maybe we do okay despite ourselves? I don't think we have anything near the infrastructure required to boost things and there won't be the investment needed to take that to a much higher level without some luck.

Alongside the success of Callum and Kieran we are seeing a lot of guys destined for fairly decent careers in football leaving, if we could routinely get one or two with more quality coming on every year in to first team contention we would be laughing.
