Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Noticed that. He gets kicked at every level we play at. Opposition frustration?
He's quite fond of skelping into a player as he makes a challenge on them, so maybe it's a bit of retaliation for that. Despite the good game, I thought some of his crossing was a little bit poor. He didn't always have 2 or 3 options to aim for but he hit the first defender or just put it into an empty space a few times. More than I'd normally expect of him. Still played well right enough but he's giving us high enough expectations that I'd love his crossing to be a constant threat. I think that's a fair observation, though I think that largely, his delivery is decent - i.e. it's not something where we're constantly saying 'christ, you're final ball is terrible', so I think any issues will be ironed out.

Tierney delivered an amazing cross in the first half straight along the 6 yard box but no one there to score. And he received a long ball from Ntcham beautifully in the second half by heading the ball up the wing and skinning his marker. Marker got back to tackle with Tierney winning the corner.
The cross he made against Kilmarnock from 40 yards out was quite a good one 😉

PERHAPS the only negative about playing for Celtic in Kieran Tierney’s eyes is that he can’t be on the pitch and in the stands at the same time. Few have embraced the supporter-turned-superstar dream more than the 20-year-old who remains perhaps the only footballer to have been fairly sanguine about being injured as it gave him the opportunity to watch the team in action just as he used to do as a boy growing up. Tierney has been blessed with a maturity beyond his years and spoke respectfully and sensibly about it being “only half time in the tie” following last week’s 5-0 first leg play-off win over Astana that has all but sealed Celtic’s place in the Champions League group stage for a second successive season. Ask him about the atmosphere and the fans, however, and his eyes light up with almost childlike enthusiasm. The return of the Green Brigade following a temporary ban helped elevate the noise level at Celtic Park before and during Wednesday night’s match to a near-deafening din, the sound backed by a banner – inoffensive this time – that depicted manager Brendan Rodgers, captain Scott Brown and Tierney all roaring in trademark fashion. The slogan on it - “we’re not here to take part, we’re here to take over” - is a quote commonly attributed to Conor McGregor. When the UFC fighter the next day tweeted his appreciation of the whole scene, Tierney was quick to further spread his hero’s message. When you are a regular pick for your boyhood club and the fans make a banner featuring your likeness, you surely know you have made it. “I was buzzing with the display,” he said. “It was class. I really enjoyed that. And the whole atmosphere was crazy. You can’t really prepare for the Celtic Park atmosphere. You think you know what it’s like but it still takes you by surprise. They go up a level every time. “The noise the other night was great and that spurs us on as players. The fans are the 12th man and they are brilliant for us. And for the away team to hear 60,000 people singing like that, it must be hard for them.” Little wonder the mood both on and off the pitch was one of celebration. This was meant to be one of the most difficult matches Celtic would face all season against a side they only narrowly defeated at home a year ago courtesy of an injury-time penalty. Twelve months on and Celtic, following a tight opening, were wiping the floor with them. By the end it began to look as if they might score with every shot. No team has ever overturned a five-goal deficit in the Champions League qualifiers and Astana surely won’t be the first to achieve that on Tuesday night, even with their impressive home record. That Celtic have taken the potential peril of the return leg out of the equation by being so emphatic at home is surely a sign of how far they have progressed under Rodgers’ watch. “A year is a long time,” Tierney said. “When the gaffer came in [last year] the qualifying rounds were just the start and we hadn’t worked long under each other. As a squad we have improved so much. Last year was great for us and now we have to achieve things this year, too. “I think everyone is thinking with the one brain now. Last year we were just getting to grips with it. We were getting better as training went on. And a year down the line I think everyone can see how much we’ve improved as a team. We’re much better and fitter.” On a personal level Tierney has undoubtedly come on leaps and bounds, too. There will be major English and European clubs monitoring his progress but he feels he still has further improvements inside him. “I’ve come far but I’ve worked hard every day to achieve that,” he said. “The manager has shown great faith in me and that gives me confidence when I go out on the park. “I feel that I’ve still got a lot to give and I’m working hard every day to try to get better. I’m nowhere near the perfect player. Far from it. I’m working hard on all my weaknesses and there are plenty of them. “I’ve got a hard role now getting up and down the pitch all game but in training when you’re in that position you’re playing against top wingers and full-backs. It prepares you for games like these. Testing yourself against Scott Sinclair, James Forrest and Jonny Hayes every day is great for me. I learn every day. “I know I’m fitter now as I can last a game a bit better now! I used to get to 60 or 70 minutes in and feel cramp. That’s expected as a young boy coming through. But you get fitter in training and in the gym and it all pieces together for you. “European games are a good test as everyone is well organised and quick on the counter. So you have to be aware of that. I could be up attacking and then back defending a moment later. It’s demanding but that’s what you want as a player. That makes you better.” http://www.heraldscotland.com/Green_Brigade_display_was_class

In the last season he has played left back, (virtually) left wing, centre half and right back. And excelled at them all.
Keep him here as long as possible.

anybody who wants to start bidding they should take notice that johnny evans is worth £18m so kt is worth a good bit more.
this is the time to start setting our own prices when we have the collateral to back it up. we don't need to be held to ransome any longer and cl players cost cl prices.

KIERAN TIERNEY has risen to the top of the class since breaking into the Celtic team two years ago. But the Hoops wonderkid revealed he was like a primary school pupil all over again as he waited for the result of Thursday’s Champions League draw. The star-studded Uefa event was always a highlight for KT when he grew up as a Celtic-daft youngster. He would punch the air when the Hoops were paired with Barcelona, Manchester United and other Euro giants. And Tierney admits the same butterflies returned when Celtic landed Bayern Munich, PSG and Anderlecht in Group B. The 20-year-old said: “When I was a wee boy growing up, the Champions League draw was always a special day. “At school, that was all everyone would talk about. I was so excited. Back then, 3pm couldn’t come quick enough to get home and see the draw. “After training on Thursday, I had that same feeling. I was excited to find out who I could be playing against. “Times have changed for me, but it’s brilliant. I will keep working hard and hopefully get picked. “You always know it’s going to be a tough group, but we look forward to every single game. “We are up against great teams, top teams, and we know how good they are. “But everyone also knows about Celtic and the atmosphere the fans create as well. “I was a ball boy the night we beat Barcelona and it was madness. “It’s a hard draw, but that’s the Champions League. We just need to prepare well, as always. The experience we got last year will be good for us. “My European experience is increasing and it’s great to test yourself against the best. “I’ve already played against some of the best wingers in the world in the best competition in the world. As a player, that’s what you want. For me, doing it with Celtic is brilliant.” The Champions League is the school of hard knocks for any young player. Tierney only has to recall last season’s 7-0 thumping from Barca to realise that. Neymar was one of the main men for the Catalans back then and now the Brazilian is PSG’s £198million world record hero. But he isn’t alone in a Group B packed full of the world’s best talents, with Bayern’s Arjen Robben among the other superstars. For Tierney, it could be a daunting prospect, but the Scotland kid will never be one to shirk a challenge. He said: “When Neymar was at Barca, the front three was incredible. Hopefully I can use the experience this year, but it’s hard. “I remember watching one man and you’re thinking you have got him. Then another one comes. And another one. There are third-man runs everywhere, people everywhere. “That’s what top teams do. The movement is the thing that separates him. “Someone goes one yard one way and you are spooked. Then he has the ball with space. All you can do is your best. “At PSG, they’ll probably be just as good as Barca. They have all cost a lot of money and they are top players, as everyone has seen. “Arjen Robben is also among the best wingers in the world. He’s up there at the top. He’s done it for years now, producing at the highest level. If I get the chance to go up against him, I’d really look forward to it. It would be a big test. “But all the wingers will be good at this level. It’s always a tough challenge. “Mentally, it is very exhausting. It’s hard. They are hard games and mentally and physically, you need to be at your best, your peak. “If you switch off for a second it can be a goal. That is the level we are playing at.” Tierney missed three group games last year after suffering an ankle injury and he feels he has unfinished business in the Champions League. His best game came against Manchester City when he had an epic battle with Raheem Sterling and he is still claiming a goal in the 3-3 draw. He said: “That was a good test for me at 19, coming up against a £50m winger, a player people are expecting a lot of. “Obviously he got a goal and did well that night. I tried to put in a shift and do my best. “Uefa didn’t give me the goal at the other end, but I’ll try and take it anyway. I’ll say it was a shot. Raheem has tracked back and unluckily it has hit him and gone into his net. If he doesn’t want it, I’ll take it! “I’ve come up against a few good wingers and those are experiences that can make me a better player “It’s always frustrating when you get injured. There is no good time for it to happen. “I missed three Champions League games and a cup final in the space of a few months. “It was hard to take at the time, but as a footballer, you need to deal with that. “Hopefully I will get the chance to play in the Champions League this year.” https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/kieran-tierney

He's as honest as he is talented. No clichés, just a real and straightforward thinker who knows his weaknesses.
Love his excitement for the game.

Going to give this a wee bump since players are being rounded on in other threads and I'm not sure he should be excluded from any criticism (Lustig would be another for me)
It was actually something I noted in the away leg in Astana. I thought Tierney had a poor game that night but given the overall result I wasn't going to be overly critical. However his passing stats that night were poor compared to his team mates. I think the figure was 78%.
Last night I actually thought Tierney was worse than Ralston. Both players were up against exceptional talents but I thought Ralson faired better - and Ralston does not have the experience of Tierney.
Some players tend to get an easy ride because of their personality (eg Lustig and Tierney) but that shouldn't exempt them from criticism.

He does get an easy ride, someone pointed out in the post match thread, had that been Izaguirre last night turning in that performance he'd have been slaughtered. Tierney has been poor in Europe for us. Not just against the bigger teams but against the likes of Rosenberg and HBS as well.
He's a long way from being the player a lot claim he is.

Agree he gets an easy ride from the fans at times, probably a far easier ride than certain other homegrown players like McGregor and Forrest, but I don't think he's been that bad in Europe for us.
For every game like last night, and there's been a few, he's also put in some very good performances for us in these games; Fenerbahçe on his European debut, Ajax at home, Astana at home x 2, Man City, Rosenborg away etc. For a guy at his age, he's been ok.
I think over the last few seasons under Deila and Rodgers we have been far too cavalier (or in Deila's case, plain pish) in Europe and this has resulted in our defence being badly exposed and made to look amateurish in certain games, with world class wingers having the run at them almost freely.
I think a more restrained and cautious approach as a team would see Tierney and certain others looking a bit better at this level.

Best of the back four last night (faint praise indeed) but like others he struggles with the step up to that level.
