He reminds me a bit of Burley (when he wasn't a dick). Strong, endless running, excellent running later to the box. A real number 8 in his style, working the length of the pitch. He may even prove better than Burley because I think he is even more athletic, although burley played in a different era.

And was a dick.
I see him as a number 10, doesn't remind me of Burley at all.
Armstrong is not a number 10. His starting position is deeper than the area a 10 plays. Some fans seem to think because Armstrong is advanced compared to Brown he must be playing an attacking role but Brown drops very deep to start our attacks.

Brown's natural game is to play like Burley, Armstrong is undoubtedly as part of the 3 behind a striker in a 4-2-3-1.

That`d be 4-1-4-1 or is Rogic a defensive midfielder? Truly confused.

Surprised you're confused. With Rogic and Armstrong in the team we have been more of a 4-1-4-1.

So why did you state 4-2-3-1 then? :ponder:

You on the whiskey? :)

Armstrong's natural position is as part of the 3 behind the striker, Brown's is as part of a MF 2, that's all I was saying

Armstrong is more Burley than Rogic.
In the modern game he's more of a 10 than an 8. Burley was a traditional number 8 box to box sort of player, that's not Armstrong's game.

That's exactly Armstrong's game :ponder:

It isn't, not physical enough either. The game at Pittodrie this season stands out for me, the gaps between our "3" and Brown were huge because Armstrong plays so far forward that we become a 4-1-4-1. Even the manager has been talking about our "front 5" in recent weeks.

No he doesn't. Nothing like Burley. If Burley had played in the 4-2-3-1 era he wouldn't be behind the striker, afaik our recent games have been Armstrong's first run of games as a CM. Had a few games there over the course of last season and looked badly out of place.

We will agree to disagree.

Edit. I know Burley wouldn't be behind the striker. That's cause he's an 8' not a 10.

Armstrong has caused them massive difficulties at times this season when he hasn't looked on great form. His confidence has never been higher than it is now. Saturday could be a treat for him

I always liked him. Even reminded me of Doug Leash in his early days. I am so glad he is starting to show some of what he is capable. Saturday could well be the day he really makes his mark. Here's hoping.

Burley was a blood and snotter box to box midfielder who was greater at making runs beyond the ball. Armstrong is a far more elegant player in every sense.
