So.
Don't need McCarthy then?
Certainly not for the fee/wage rumoured.
Not worth the difference in price/quality/contribution IMO.
We still need additional midfielders, regardless of Armstrong's form.

McCarthy? Well depends on the price and wages, if the rumoured £15M from this morning is true we can forget it, not that he'd be worth forking out anywhere near that even if we could afford it.
We badly need a DM for europe next season. Brown and Armstrong are really gelling but I think we need a proper DM, it's the only real weakness in the side.

I'd agree with that. In addition, Brown will need to be managed over the next few years too. He won't be able to play every game because he plays with such intensity and he's hit 30 now. Perhaps if Armstrong keeps developing we could see him play with and instead of Brown once we have another worthy central midfielder.

armstrong is getting better but the champions league games have shown he is at least 1 or 2 steps below that quality if we have genuine ambitions for last 16

He possibly could yeah, he's starting to harry players all over the pitch like Brown and looks to be developing a real good sense of what's happening around him on the pitch which means he's often in the right place at the right time. He offers far more of a goal threat than Brown too (no bad thing obviously) but will probably never be quite as intense as him.

If we were to sign a Wanyama type DM then I think we could quite happily play with two out of the three of them on any given week, keeping the option of playing all three at once if needs be. Obviously Brendan would need to think about rotating Brown in and out of the team given he's the captain, but it occurred to me watching the game on Friday that there's another similarity with the MON days starting to appear - there were probably half a dozen guys on the pitch that you could easily see wearing the armband.

Playing very well due to run of games and the old thing that makes players play well..confidence.

BR had given him game time and installed that. Amazing what a run of games does to someone and a very good manager behind him.

Playing very well, at this rate I'd be surprised if he didn't pick up the Player of the Month for December

Brown will actually be 32 at the end of the season - Hence why Rodgers is wanting TWO midfield players as he is aware Brown will hit a point in time whereby he won't want to use him every single game and I would envisage Allan will be offloaded and Bitton punted.

I don't know how people have managed to turn the level a player plays at into a quantifiable number but either way I disagree. The Man City game showed that he can cut it. He wasn't as convincing in previous games but he hadn't hit his stride at that time.

Aye, I agree.

Rogic is a great player, but in Europe (particularly away) I think we should be starting with Brown, Armstrong and another strong, athletic midfielder.

Rodgers wants us to press. As inventive as he is on the ball, Rogic doesn't press well for an extended period of time. He's an impact sub for us in Europe, a creative player capable of turning matches in our favour, but I really do think that triangle in midfield should be fit, hungry and technically able.

Had my doubts about him at CL level but he played very well at Citeh although the game was not the most competitive for Citeh. |Still up against more than decent players

Like to see him do it next year in the new campaign and make a better call on him.

he is playing very very well consistently domestically just now.

Delighted to see him doing so well. I was really excited when we signed him but I'm ashamed to say I had written him off by the start of this season. If his current form is an indication of things to come from his Celtic career and not a purple patch, then I'd have him over spending stupid money on McCarthy every day of the week.

You build your defensive barriers,
The better he becomes,
If you try to take the ball away,
The faster he will run,
You can't deny him, or even try
To stop our Stuart play,
No matter cause there's

Something inside, Armstrong,
I knew that he could make it,
You proved so many wrong, so wrong,
They thought that your chance had gone, Oh no,
There was something inside, Armstrong
Oh, oh oh oh oh oh, There was something inside, Armstong
