Has anyone noticed how Armstrong seems to be good enough for Scottish domestic games, but not quite at the level needed for Europe?

For a man reported to be intelligent he did a very good impersonation of a dithering imbecile last night. Near the start of the second half a step over to allow Sinclair to collect the ball on the overlap while driving past the defensive line was all that was required for a guaranteed one on one with Sommer. Instead botched his first touch and displayed a shocking lack of logic to feebly yield the ball to the RB.

Repeatedly passed the ball to opponents and killed many carefully crafted attacks. Moenchengladbach's best defender. Not much intensity and eagerness in his play to compensate. Made one good recovery tackle to correct one of his many errors. A liability whom earlier in the thread I had defended. Sadly law and self-preening appear to have supplanted the essential passion for football necessary in a pro.

You could argue that for most of the team. I personally don't think Armstrong will make it at that level but most of the team haven't played at that level and if they are to develop, they need games. Piss poor competition in the league isn't going to give them the experience to develop.

Didn't think he was as bad as some people are making out. Thought he was average for most of the first half but then had a pretty good middle period and a decent ending. Ran himself into the ground a times, chasing the ball down, down most of Rogics running when he was on the pitch and still managed to get ahead of Rogic at a couple of chances.

Bit of a box to box man, yet I dont think he knows himself what type of player he is supposed to be. Hopefully Brendan can mold that into him, there's a real player there.
agree with this
Would agree with this. He worked hard last and considering the limited game team he has had he done well. think he lacks a bit of belief that he belongs at that level. Rodgers sees something in him and trusts him. Good enough for me.

I have no doubt had a go at him in other threads but I will be showing a bit of patience in him and supportting the guy. I'm sure it will make all the difference for him.

Which is the same for McGregor and Henderson who are nowhere near CL level.

I wouldn't be surprised if Brown and possibly Rogic are the only picks Rodgers will be utilising when he gets his own chosen midfielders in.

Yip Brown and 45mins from Rogic are the only things near to being good enough in the CL. We desperately need a new centre mid and he has got be good. It's a tough ask when we don't have unlimited funds. Hoping that the more games Armstrong gets at that level he can improve.

He appears to lack the ability to process what to do with the ball. His hesitation results , inevitably, in loss of possession, which at this level is so dangerous. There's a decent player in there, but putting it all together doesn't seem to be happening. His future may be on the bench when we sign a couple of first team midfielders.

He hasn't even been good enough for the SPFL for much of his Celtic career to date but I'm waiting to see if this recent upturn in performance level continues.

There is a definite step up in both pace and physicality at CL level. Some players I liked just didn't have it like Commons. Others like Wanyama just seemed to get better. Others took time like VVD. Not sure if Armstrong will improve given time. Pretty sure McGregor wont. I still think BR could mould a player form Bitton.

Agree with this. I was fed up with Armstrong at the beginning of the season but have been pleasantly surprised with his improvement in form. I didn't think he had it in him.

It wasn't a great performance last night, but it wasn't terrible either. I saw enough desire to give him another chance at this level to see if he can improve.

He's just coming back to form after a season of mismanagement and being played out of position. Look how far the likes of Rogic and Broony have come in a short space of time. Still early in the season and I'd say things are generally looking good for Armstrong.
