He was good in parts. Needs space in front of him to be able to play. First choice backup to Brown and Bitton just now.
On current form I believe he deserves a spot before Bitton.

Some good, healthy competition in the squad at the moment.
Bitton isn't on form just now but I still don't think it's even close. His positioning off the ball is night and day with Armstrong.
Depends the opposition. I'd be inclined to play Stu before Bitton against SPFL teams on current form and considering we will be attacking more.

Against BM, we probably need better cover and can understand Bitton getting the nod. Hiwever, on current form I wouldn't have an issue trying someone else there.

BR again emphasising his best position is in the middle of the park, that he's working hard, and that he's still working on his pressing.

He's coming along very well - would love to see him start to push Bitton.

Good week for Stuart.

Looked lost for much of last season but did well at Hampden and turned in a decent performance last night - including the vital goal of the game.

Looks stronger and more confident now.

Not so sure about stronger...he seemed to get brushed aside by the Ross County carthorses players at set pieces last night.

But he does look like a player again which is great. No idea why he lost confidence and former so dramatically last season .

Lovely finish last night, great composure to pick out that corner. Fox wouldn't have gotten anywhere near that

Not sure whether he's a direct replacement for Bitton or not. Bitton coming on gave us a lot more balance.

Glad to see him doing well, hopefully he can keep it going.

First time in a while where he has actually started a game and played really well. His best performances prior to last night have been as sub against the huns in both matches.

He seems like one of those players if he doesn't start a game well then a poor performance is then the norm. Rogic used to be the same.

Ability is there, but think it's a confidence/mentality thing. Coming from a team like Dundee Utd to the expectation levels of playing for Celtic can take a while to get your head round, some good players never do it.

Impressive last night, should be taking Bittons spot in the first XI.

I think for large parts of last season he wasn't really sure what his role in the team was. Rodgers has a clear idea on what he wants and, as a result, it's easier to communicate to the player what is expected of them. Armstrong is a fine example of someone who appears to be enjoying his football alot more.

He played well last night, very industrious and tried to press as much as possible. Looks a different player under Rodgers already, although I have my doubts that he will make it with us long term. He has a few flaws that may get worked out through good coaching but my main concern is that he lacks steel and is too nice on the park. Perhaps its just me!

Good player who is getting better. Not the answer to our midfield headache but would rather have him on the bench than McGregor

Did well last night and great finish for goal..still to be convinced but I think there is a player in there. At times looks lightweight but we need quality in midfield next 2-3 month and hope Stuart is that. Good to see him back starting last night and goal to boot.

he's not a replacement for Bitton. Armstrong is the one knocking at the first team door, of all the peripheral squad players, his claim is strongest. However, he could really only replace Brown, or Rogic at a push, so the likelihood is that for now he'll remain a very effective "impact sub", or starter in games like last night. Unless injury hits others, he'll be in the dugout at the weekend .

Seems to be playing with the kind of confidence that marked his early months. Can't help but think developing a wee mean streak wouldn't do him any harm; he seems such a gentle, mild mannered big guy and they're admirable qualities in a human being but not so much in the engine room of a fitbaw team. The boy need some badass about him. Get him on the weights tae: he's got the football brain and skills, supplement that with a Collins-esque torso and some Broony cojones and he'll be A1! :rocker: :boxer:

Don't agree. Brown is much more middle to front than Bitton in this Celtic team. Bitton is much deeper most of the time. Armstrong can't play that deep role, and is much more effective pushing forward into the opponent's area.

Spot on. I was saying something similar on the post match thread. He's been like a rabbit caught in headlights for too long but BR has definitely given him belief. If he can get stronger he'll definitely feature more. Smashing goal last night which had improved confidence written all over it.

Looking forward to seeing if he can take the next step.

Ok, fair enough. It's all about opinions.
