Armstrong is not, and never has been, a left-midfielder.

He came to prominence at United playing in the middle of the park for a reason.

He's previously played there for us and played well.
Your next statement is nonsense and has been proved previously on this thread to be nonsense.
He's played more games as a left mid than anywhere else, both for us and Utd.

Perfect sub once again
Yup. I was baffled by it at the time but the manager clearly knows what he's good for, needed it on the pitch, and got it out of the player. Excellent work all around, and well-rewarded with a goal for the lad and his lovely hair.

It probably never occurred to half the stadium for Armstrong to come on but he did make a difference. I like the idea that we have two no. 10's who offer something different. Rogic who likes to get the ball into feet and turn away from a defender and Armstrong who will run into space from behind the forwards.

To me it was all his movement rather than use of the ball that changed it up yesterday. Right sub at the right time in the right game.

 I said the same thing yesterday on this thread Bawman. Armstrong is best when ghosting into positions without the ball whilst Rogic is best with the ball at his feet. The substitution yesterday was key to killing the game. Both Rogic and Armstrong were great yesterday in their differing way. Rodgers showed his understanding of the game yet again with his substitution at a key moment in the game.

He hit a fantastic shot not long before the goal.

Brenda Rodgers is getting far more out of players than Delia could; Brown, Armstrong, Forest have all come back to form. I have to wonder if he can get more out of Boyata, Cifti and GMS ? Better man management, Better coaching, Better deployment ?
Naw.
I don't think so re. Cifti or Boyata - simply not good enough players.

Who knows with GMS - I don't think he'll ever be a starter for us, but if Rogers could get the best out of him he could be a useful squad player

Suppose, for want of a better comparison he played in a Frank Lampard type role.

I think having the freedom in that position and thus less pressure to take the ball allowed him to play with more confidence.

As well as an excellent and surprising tactical move to bring on Armstrong, it was also really good man management to instil a belief in the player that he can be essentially to the team in important matches.

Great stuff all round really.

Yeah.

Again, you heard Rodgers after the match talking about the mental aspect; saying that he'd spent the week saying that he could impose himself on the game when he came on. Armstrong of even last month would have been useless out there as the game was in the balance. He helped us solidify the game and drive on.

Glad Brendan has spotted the correct position for him. Not a number 10 as such but he can offer us something off the bench.

Tidy finish yesterday.

Was delighted when he signed, then underwhelmed, like most.

Brendhino could be the making of him as a Celtic player :)

Yup, or in Celtic terms Rogic is Naka and Armstrong is Petrov/Liam Miller.

Just watching it back now. You can see his effect on the game instantly. None of their midfield had the legs to match his running.

You're right.

Few of us could see the effect he'd have. Brendan obviously saw that their midfield were struggling for pace and energy and made the switch because of that.

That Rogic was knackered having travelled the distance of the world on international duty was the perfect excuse to make the switch, and it worked perfectly.

For me this is what Rodgers has over Lennon, maybe O'Neill and definitely Deila.

He is able to make tactical adjustments to turn the game. Lennon was a decent strategist, but when his strategy didn't work, he couldn't change. Deila was worse!

It is an art form, and Rodgers seems able to do it well.
