Technically I've never doubted him. But his performances this season have been well below par. Whether that's being played out of position I don't know.

Needs to kick on from day 1 in pre-season and get himself in the side. Massive season for him coming up.

guys like Armstrong , Rogic also tend to excel in one sided games that we are well in control of and go missing when they are needed in the trenches(that could also be said for a lot of the squad)
Armstrong was obviously one of Deila`s favourites as he went through an absolutely horrendous run of form and yet continued to start every week

I don't think you can say Rogic goes missing after this season. Killie? Huns?

He was excellent. So much more drive and purpose than we usually see.

Goal was a screamer.

McGregor is a better option in the middle and allows for more positional altering than Broon. Armstrong benefited from us having a better central 2 (and motherwell were gash)

No he certainly did not line up in center mid but he sure came inside a lot.
Just look at where he scored his goal from.

Not from CM anyway. He's always had the freedom to cut inside as we've attacking LBs yet he's been an empty jersey almost all season.

Much much better today and an outstanding goal.

Needs to kick on next season and perform like that in games that matter.

I think we got a glimpse of the player he can be.

From running off the left you mean?

I think people fundamentally understand the point of playing inside out wide players.

Shambolic opposition or not, he excelled playing on the left today. He can continue to be effective there if we choose to pick him there, especially if we get anything like a settled team.

The next manager is likely to pick 4-2-3-1, because it it one of about three currently favoured systems across the world these days. People might want to get used to it.

We saw it last season too mate, he's been poor all season and whatever position he played wouldn't have made a difference. Worth another try but hes aberdeen standard imo.

Armstrong's problem isn't talent or where he's played, it's something else. He needs to sort himself out as he'll quickly find the best club he'll play for can't wait for him indefinitely. I say this as a fan and someone who appreciates that when he isn't having a good game he still makes nice moves to drag defenders out of position etc. Thing is he needs to have more good games where he isn't relying on folk to clock the basics.

Our problem with that set up is where players are and what they do when we're the ones being attacked.
Not taking anything away from Armstrong today, he played well and scored a cracker but the play was all forward.
Like many who've played in that midfield 5 he's found wanting when he needs to go back the way and defend.

Wanting both positionally and in generally getting stuck in.

Delighted when we signed him, and his performances last season got he excited. I reckon he doesn't like pressure, or negativity rather. Seems to play well when things are going well. shampooebag!

I would think he would wait and see if he can get the players to suit whatever formation he prefers
his teams to play.
I sure hope his plan is to have a team that can adapt to the opposition and whatever it is that they do
that might make things difficult for us.
