Rated him higher than most.

Think he’s a great player at SPFL level and we could do with a replacement as no one else in the team offers the same energy and running power.

£7m is a good fee due to him coming into his last year.

As I said before his lack of being able to perform in the CL leads me to believe he might not succeed down there. That being said worse players have.

Wish him all the best. Keep doing it in the Scotland jersey Stu.

Really appreciate his footballing ability but clearly he’s not a first pick for the team so I think the £6-7M is a reasonable fee

Good luck Stu. I enjoyed watching his surging runs and his goals from distance. Injuries and contract issues probably limited his usefulness last year but I hope he does well for Southampton and for Scotland.

If any of that is true he was not our 6th most important player last year. Lucky to be in the top 15 this year so any rise is probably too much. He should be glad of a contract offer.

Celtic also regularly renegotiate contract way before the final year. Tierney for example. Or even himself... I'm pretty sure we were talking for a good while before he went into his last 12 months

And if he had all these teams after him, where were they last year? Or did the same ones come back in, who weren't good enough for him last year?

I'm glad he's away. Aside from a decent price we wasted too much time on him last year on the back of his first consistently decent three quarters of a season. He wasn't running through brick walls for us last season.

It was a no brainer for us too as we have better players in there now, never mind any new signings.

So long and cheers for the goals. Expect to hear him running down the quality of the SPL in about 24 hours, forgetting that he barely had a stand out game against better quality opposition.

I was also told that during the negotiations for his contract extension last season, his agent had him as being the 6th most important player and yet the club were pitching his wages around the 12 th place.
He was willing to stay but the club only said that if he signed a 3 year deal then they would look at it again at the end of last season. His agent knew that the only way Celtic would negotiate was if he was in the last year of his deal, hence why they only signed a 1 year extension.
They tried to get him to sign another deal but the increase in wages was minimal and they also had interest from two EPL teams and 3 championship teams.
It was a no brainer for him.
His agent must have been watching a different team ???

40k a week? Probably more than double what we were paying him.

Good luck to him, good move for all concerned really if the reported fee is correct!

An inform and fit Armstrong would have been in my team however that was few and far between and because of this and the fact we’ve got a lot of midfielders I would imagine he wasn’t offered top dollar by us and was quite right to look elsewhere.A player I would have been happy to keep but not too big a miss.Good luck to him.
Ahead of who, just out of interest?
Brown Ntcham and Armstrong were the midfield 3 when we played Aberdeen at home and I thought we bullied them and was surprised when the following week Brendan changed the midfield 3.

So with how they performed last season, you are happy with one of Rogic, Forrest or McGregor not starting?

The 6th best was when he played extremely well in the invincible season so you can see where they got that from.

That’s nothing like what I heard.

He was never staying, but signed an extension because he didn’t get the interest his agent had said would materialise. I mentioned on here before that his lawyer conducted most of the negotiations and was being really difficult to deal with.

Have we finally got one over on Southampton ? Best wishes all the same Stuart but at least admit you went for the money, no harm in that.

So you're saying his agent was living in the past.

He was in a stronger bargaining position last year. I'm a bit sad to see him going, but he wasn't a first team starter latterly.

The team needs freshened up a bit, its a good bit of business for all concerned.
