He never gave off the impression of someone who saw himself as being here long term. Disappointed to lose him as -on form - he’s a prolific goal threat from midfield, which isn’t easy to replace. That said, the money on offer is too good to turn down given his contractual position.

Think he’s smart enough to probably do quite well down there.
Armstrong over the piece wasn’t as good a player as Stefan Johansen. He left and there was minimal fuss made. McGregor easily takes Armstrong’s place. Christie / Henderson may even improve on him.

Stephan Johansen! :ffs:

One good season terrible the next. A fit Armstrong is miles ahead of him

I remember when we beat Benfica 3-0 at home and Petrov was doing his pundit on the radio for it and he sounded absolutely gutted. He only left a few months earlier. Forster and Wanyama also say the Barcelona game was their high point.

Anyway good luck to him. He will make alot of money

I've pointed out Armstrong's averageness at Celtic, but he's a far better player than Stefan. Goals scored from similar positions and respective transfer values - both with 12 months to go - also suggest you're quite wrong.

Correct. Armstrong during the invincibles season was comfortably better than Johansen in his Poty season. Then Johansen of 15/16 was horrendous and his attitude was howlin, whereas Armstrong was clearly unfit last season and had what you could describe as a disappointing if not terrible year.

Ive went to two Fulham games in the past year, watched Cairney and Johansen closely, Cairney is generally quoted as worth over £20m, Johansen has been more effective than Cairney on both occasions.

Armstrong is better than both of them, we should have got more for him but we should be fine without him.

Armstrong can be better than both, sometimes, for a wee while. This is the crux of the matter.

Johansen

He had 4 good months and somehow ended up with a POTY award, Armstrong is head and shoulders above him

Not as easy to replace as some might think but he wasn't comfortably in the first 11. Contract issue last year became toxic, best this is tied up asap.

Can’t understand the bitterness towards Armstrong on here. He fulfilled his contract, played well, now he wants to move on. Good luck to him. We’ve made a decent profit on the deal, and he will be adequately replaced. What’s not to like?

He's won more medals at 26 than most pros win in an entire career. He's off to make his money for when his playing days are over. He had a purple patch amidst a generally mediocre time at Celtic. To get seven million for him is excellent business.
