Armstrong has been a good player for us. He has improved and over the piece improved the team when he's played. Whats also true is that we need more from our midfield, especially in Europe.

(McGinn isnt that player btw - Id be surprised if in 3 years time he puts the sort of performance in that Armstrong did against England say)
I don't remember Armstrong being particularly good against England, or in any big non sevco games the last couple of years.

Maybe I'm blinded by him pissing his breeks at the end of that game.
He cost us the win against England
not marking harry kane in the box also cost us that win.

So, Armstrong out for £7m.
McGinn in for £2m + Scott Allan.
Possibly send out Eboue on loan, or sell to one of the French clubs for about £5m.

I'd say, we're looking to trim the squad down to what Brendan likes to work with & we could see his revolving door.

I'd be happy to see Armstrong/Allan out & McGinn in with £5m in the bank.
McGinn has been spoken of in direct quotes from the Club in fairly glowing terms, he's an absolute Tim & would add to KT, Broony, CalMac, Forrest in that mentality - even though Armstrong is Scottish, he was never going to run through walls for Celtic.

Happy for the guy, as this is how he is & he's got his plan - good luck to him.
More happy to have McGinn + £5m :)

Rogic, Edouard & Ajer just signed up long contracts, looks like we're quietly putting things in place to secure 10IAR. Clear out the rest of the deadwood & guys who want to move on (Jozo, Boyata?) bring in quality 3 players or so.

I think Morgan will surprise a few & really push for his spot - we've a LOT of Scottish players now, which is something else Brendan wants.
why are you bothered by what money is in the bank?

Not having a go - genuine question.

I would prefer to see money spent on genuine quality as a replacement rather than McGinn (who i rate btw) but doesn't mean to say we cannot get better with a higher outlay.
We have plenty of money in the bank - now it's imperative that we increase the quality on the park. There are some signs that other teams in the league are closing the gap (as evidenced by plenty of poor performances by us last season, less goals scored and the points differential)
we have lost some of the strength in depth we had and as others have said the strengthening of the starting 11 must be prioritised.

As an aside, when BR said about the development of the young players - anyone any idea who he was talking about? was it the likes of KT, CalMac, Ajer or was it some of the development squad guys like Ralston, Miller etc?
I mean I'd rather have McGinn +£5m than a seemingly disinterested Armstrong.
Hoping we will use it for players, both development & first team, as well as infrastructure like the Deila Dome.

If it's £7M that's excellent business.

As a player, he is what he is really. Talented and frustrating in equal measure, with very little heart. He seems an alright guy and although the money will be a factor, I genuinely think he's a guy who just wants to test himself at a higher level. Can't grumble too much about that. Unlike players who have left purely for money in the past, I don't even think he'll miss us too much. This is what he's wanted for a while now.

Bet he ends up at the hun one day.
:ffs:

It was clear from the moment he signed (we wanted an initial 4 and a half year deal and he insisted on a year less) than he saw us as a step to going elsewhere. The exact same as Wanyama and VVD (not saying he's as good).

He won 8 medals including 4 league titles. He got into the Scotland team. He has improved as a player and had a big role in the Invincibles. On the bus after the double treble he said he had no idea how big a club Celtic was until he signed for us. He seemed to have a real respect for the club but he wasn't a badge kisser and he has always fancied playing outside of Scotland. And whats wrong with that ?

Is his loss as bad as say Hooper, Petrov, VVD, di Canio etc. No, of course not but his energy and drive from midfield will be missed. Wish him nothing but the best

Up until about 18 months ago I was expecting him to be loaned out, sold at a loss or gradually run down his contract and go to another SPFL club. To be potentially selling him for £7m a year and a half down the line after getting some value for him on the pitch then I'll be happy. Barely getting him to sign a 1 year extension last year was clear evidence of his unwillingness to stay. I've enjoyed watching him at his best and I think it's a fair move for all involved.

I'm new. Be gentle.
Armstrong has got the move he craved, Celtic have been well compensated, he is a fine player but one who can easily be replaced by the manager.
The sad part for me is that I think there is still some improvement to come from him and this may not be his last big move.

Sad some feel the need to have a pop at a player who has helped us win trophies, was part of the legendary double treble and invincible team. He has never embarrassed us or been less than professional and most importantly is always immaculately turned out.

His transfer if it goes through leaves us and him better off financially.

Why the need to slag the guy off?

Good luck Stu and thanks.

It's like a bird you go out with who's quite hot but not that smoking and you know it's only a bit of fun but she's always ok with you even if sometimes she feels a little distant and pies your texts. Then she finally says she's met someone else and a bit of you knew this day was coming but although you're not gutted as you've actually got a better lassie on the go you're not delighted either. Plus you get £7million quid somehow, I don't know, this bit of the analogy doesn't work.
