Armstrong has been a good player for us. He has improved and over the piece improved the team when he's played. Whats also true is that we need more from our midfield, especially in Europe.

(McGinn isnt that player btw - Id be surprised if in 3 years time he puts the sort of performance in that Armstrong did against England say)

Sutton's "Good Riddance" really is childish
There’s a fair bit of bitterness on here as well.

The guy has been here for 3.5 years which is a reasonable period. He’s been in and out of the team in that time and for a while was a truly key player.

I think he’s a really good player who has the potential to be even better. Whether he does or not isn’t clear.

I would have been gutted to see him go last summer. A year on, I’m still sorry to see him leave but the fact is that he’s not developed further in that time. Ntcham has settled in and is first choice now.

£7m is an excellent price if accurate. Seems to me like everyone got to eat their cake and have it in this instance
Agree

Stuart Armstrong was good for Celtic. Celtic were good for him. We've made a rather substantial profit on him and his career has developed. Wish him all the best.

Everyone's done well out this deal. Armstrong signed a short term extension which has got us more cash than we might otherwise have expected. He's got a decent move, and probably a ridiculous pay rise. Southampton have got a good player who scores/creates goals. Think some people on here are being a wee bit churlish about him, as he's clearly not a supporter as well as a player.

I don't remember Armstrong being particularly good against England, or in any big non sevco games the last couple of years.

Maybe I'm blinded by him pissing his breeks at the end of that game.

You're certainly giving his opinion some thought, why even consider it if you don't take it seriously? Why mention a solitary Ibrox performance when over the piece he was a great player for us? Sutton turned up in far bigger games than Stuart let us down in.
I’ve given his opinion as much thought as it takes to read a quote of “good riddance”. So, not that much.

Sutton’s an entertaining pundit who trades in being controversial; he also knows there’s a decent media career to be made as an ex-Celtic player. That’s fine, I like the guy, but take it for what it is. He’s a smart guy looking after himself, same as Armstrong.

Some people just seem to have taken the departure of a squad player who want getting a game a wee bit personally.
No doubt a few have, I don't see the correlation between personal abuse and what Sutton said.

Over the period he's been here I would say his performance has been above average. His good days have been less frequent than the quiet or poor days. When he's good he can be very good but not good enough that I will lose any sleep if he goes.
I hope it works our well for him as he seems a decent bloke. He will need to improve his game to another level if he ever wants to win anything else in his career.

He had one good season with us. We’re getting £7m for a guy who wanted away for 12 months at least. Good business.

That amount of money would probably keep the huns alive for another season. Hilariously, they don’t have that kind of dosh heading their way for any of their “stars”.

I’m certain our Brendan will not be overly upset because it will allow him to up his sights.

Just as well he did, or the likes of Tierney etc would be gubbed by September.

Armstrong is joining Crosas as a bad return on fees and wages for the club yet some people just can't get enough of him. :ponder:

Being really good, which Armstrong can be, and being pish for most of the time is way worse than being an average player who as average most of the time.

good lord. Crosas wasnt a patch on armstrong, really think we are gonna miss him he brought an energy to the middle we missed last season

Since Armstrong signed Celtic have played +/- 170 SPL games, Stuart Armstrong has started 71 of them.

Did Petrov not sign a longer deal though which covered both his and Celtic's interests with the security? Armstrong's 12 month extension just caused uncertaintity.
Aye, but as with Armstrong no-one was under the impression that he would actually stay.

I don’t think Armstrong was a particularly great player, but some of the abuse he’s getting does seem very personal. Sutton in particular has an effin brass neck. If Armstrong had shat the bed at Ibrox, downed tools and tried to get himself sent off, then I might take Sutton’s opinion seriously.
No need for the abuse. That should be reserved to sevco players, neymar and McNamara.

Good price for a wantaway player who I rate really highly on-form. but just doesn't show enough of it to be too sad about losing him. (Like everyone else here, basically).

A great buy all things considered, genuinely wish him luck in the EPL because I feel he's going to need a bit of it.

Page after page of sniping at Armstrong for wanting to move, and now it’s sniping at Sutton for saying the same thing.

At least be consistent with the irrational rage.

Being unveiled as a new signing for Aberdeen FC in July 2022 :)
Articles will include the words:
Try Rebuild Scotland career
Inject fresh momentum
More first team starts
Bouncback from years of frustrations
I think people forget the amount of players who are far worse than Armstrong who’ve had careers in the English league.

They’ve got top players down there, but there’s equally some amount of dross.

Bang on about Sutton and the media career - He is a clever guy - Once told me at Stansted Airport of all places - "I'll keep doing it for a few years until they find me out or I get bored with it" It's a kerchiing scenario for him and he has a bit of fun and good craic causing it as he earns his dosh.

Accurate assessment of his time here and as Corky says it’s worked out well for all concerned.

Will be interesting to see if he kicks on down south. I think he’ll do well if he gets a decent injury-free run, his athleticism is suited to the EPL.
