Armstrong is joining Crosas as a bad return on fees and wages for the club yet some people just can't get enough of him. :ponder:

Being really good, which Armstrong can be, and being pish for most of the time is way worse than being an average player who as average most of the time.

I think it's a fair point regards underperforming but most comments are from folk who seem happy to draw a line now and take the cash, there's no certainty what he does next, personally I hope he does well... the days of folk boldly stating it doesn't matter or they don't care what players do when they leave are well behind us, we depend heavily now on their future success. If Vic, Fraser and van Dijk had bombed we would be looking at peanuts for Stuart.

It really is tremendous work by Pistolo unless Southampton have given us a Kevin Kyle offer.

Ye'd be expecting 6-7 for a proper right good player with a year left, not someone who'd become inconsistent backup of late.

Yep. A few thousand should be kept aside for that statue.

Good luck to him, always liked Armstrong as a player.

Fair play to him for wanting to test himself against better players & earning a fortune while doing it.

Edit: Sutton just looks/sounds like a gobshampooe with those comments.
Agree. Armstrong’s “problem” is that he wasn’t a badge-kisser. Came in, kept his head down and got on with it, and is now moving on to a better league to earn more money.

Football’s an emotional game and I guess we hope players show some of that too, but I’d prefer they were honest and don’t bluff it. It’s a job to them no matter how much they proclaim to love the club.

Good luck to him.
The voice of centrist Celtic. :nono:

Ah well nuhin, he's been selfish, so we're allowed to. As much as football is business, it isny really. Nobody gets upset if one of Five Guys burger men moves to McDonalds.

Put himself over Celtic, and didn't do it very well, that's the main crux. There's ways to leave a club, him and his agent have gone for the max return option, when if we're getting 6-7 the now, would have probably been 10-12 if he'd signed a three or four year deal last summer with the same intention of leaving. eff him.

1 million for the player, 6 for the hair.

I think we'll all get over this one pretty quickly.

It's a shame he didn't want to sign another contract, but if we get a decent fee for him and replace him with someone who wants to be at Celtic, everyone wins.

Genuinely sorry to see him go. Thought Brendan was getting close to moulding him in to a real player.

He'll do a job for them I'd say.

Goodbye Stuart - thanks for a magnificent six months in Brendan's first season - I will skip over the huge amount of dross you served up before Brendan arrived.

You leave with more medals from your short time with us than most players will amass in their whole career - doubtful you will add to that tally but I hope you do.

We will make a handy profit on the deal - hopefully to be invested in the defence - but if John McGinn comes in I would welcome that as well - I think he is raw and can be careless in possession at times but he could be great - Brendan will improve him - as he did with Stuart.

So, Armstrong out for £7m.
McGinn in for £2m + Scott Allan.
Possibly send out Eboue on loan, or sell to one of the French clubs for about £5m.

I'd say, we're looking to trim the squad down to what Brendan likes to work with & we could see his revolving door.

I'd be happy to see Armstrong/Allan out & McGinn in with £5m in the bank.
McGinn has been spoken of in direct quotes from the Club in fairly glowing terms, he's an absolute Tim & would add to KT, Broony, CalMac, Forrest in that mentality - even though Armstrong is Scottish, he was never going to run through walls for Celtic.

Happy for the guy, as this is how he is & he's got his plan - good luck to him.
More happy to have McGinn + £5m :)

Rogic, Edouard & Ajer just signed up long contracts, looks like we're quietly putting things in place to secure 10IAR. Clear out the rest of the deadwood & guys who want to move on (Jozo, Boyata?) bring in quality 3 players or so.

I think Morgan will surprise a few & really push for his spot - we've a LOT of Scottish players now, which is something else Brendan wants.
why are you bothered by what money is in the bank?

Not having a go - genuine question.

I would prefer to see money spent on genuine quality as a replacement rather than McGinn (who i rate btw) but doesn't mean to say we cannot get better with a higher outlay.
We have plenty of money in the bank - now it's imperative that we increase the quality on the park. There are some signs that other teams in the league are closing the gap (as evidenced by plenty of poor performances by us last season, less goals scored and the points differential)
we have lost some of the strength in depth we had and as others have said the strengthening of the starting 11 must be prioritised.

As an aside, when BR said about the development of the young players - anyone any idea who he was talking about? was it the likes of KT, CalMac, Ajer or was it some of the development squad guys like Ralston, Miller etc?

Yup.

£7m for a player who is currently not a first pick and who is in the last year of his contract.

Shambles.

Or, a pretty good deal. Tomatoe, tomatoe

One further upside to this transfer is the reaction on the hun media sites. Not the usual rage, simply a palpable dismay, nay, despair at the level of the alleged fee. Win, win.

Not sure why so much is made of him not being a Celtic fan. Few of our players were. No one talks about Gordon or Brown not being Celtic fans. Griffiths gets a bit of stick for being a Hibs fan but it’s generally not used against him in questions about his commitment to us.
Exactly.

Plenty of players will be Celtic fans and still leave the club out of choice.

Emotional attachment or not Armstrong clearly wants to play in England with the added bonus of a decent wage increase.

Can't knock him for that.

Aye, but as with Armstrong no-one was under the impression that he would actually stay.

I don’t think Armstrong was a particularly great player, but some of the abuse he’s getting does seem very personal. Sutton in particular has an effin brass neck. If Armstrong had shat the bed at Ibrox, downed tools and tried to get himself sent off, then I might take Sutton’s opinion seriously.
You're certainly giving his opinion some thought, why even consider it if you don't take it seriously? Why mention a solitary Ibrox performance when over the piece he was a great player for us? Sutton turned up in far bigger games than Stuart let us down in.
I’ve given his opinion as much thought as it takes to read a quote of “good riddance”. So, not that much.

Sutton’s an entertaining pundit who trades in being controversial; he also knows there’s a decent media career to be made as an ex-Celtic player. That’s fine, I like the guy, but take it for what it is. He’s a smart guy looking after himself, same as Armstrong.

Some people just seem to have taken the departure of a squad player who want getting a game a wee bit personally.
