Happy to take £7 million for an inconsistent player who doesn't want to commit to the club.

McGregor, Ntcham and Rogic are first picks anyway. £7 million is too good to turn down for a back-up player.

Also looked like he wanted to leave last year anyway until he got injured so I'm happy.

The Huns are beelin at this.

No way is the fee £7m, Pedro’s PR team heavy at work, Windass must be worth £10m, etc.

I was happy to hear the fee for a player we are losing for nothing, but the Hun rage really is an added bonus.

Will be sad to see him go but feel better about it this year than last.

If it’s actually £7m then I think the club has done a really good job in keeping him an extra year and still making that sort of cash.

If we do move for McGinn then I imagine Hibs will try to play hardball on the fee now

He’s been a good player for us and will be a loss. Clearly wants to move and £7m is good business. But replacing him with John McGinn - someone who is nowhere near as good - would be bad business. Let’s not make the same mistake as Hayes and Hendry by throwing money away on someone not up to standard.

Good to see 7 million plus add ons if the Beeb is right.

Laughable that a few on here were talking about 2 or 3 million for him.

Good luck to him.
Not laughable at all. Was expected given contract situation.

This is likely the best deal in our history for a player with a year left. Most people amazed at price.
It was expected by some but it was still daft.

Even since we sold VVD the market in England has inflated again. If we accepted 3 million for Armstrong, at any stage of his contract, in a market in which Jack Grealish is valued at 40, then the club would have made itself a laughing stock.

£7m for Armstrong is a glorious deal. I thought we'd get a 'take it or leave it' £4m.

Reasons- 12 months left on a contract for a player that wants to go is prime conditions for a buyers market though. And you cannot compare prices for players with EPL experience - especially English players - to players with SPFL experience. We all know what that nuthouse does to values.

I'm delighted he's gone for that to start our cycle again.

Yep bad patter , are we going to turn on players every time they leave. He did a real good job for us , is an invincible and is entitled to follow the money if he so wishes. It’s a short career and maximising his income you can’t blame him.

Saying what the majority on this board are posting.

But, aye, a respected club legend saying it in public seems a bit snide. Especially since Armstong hasn't created any public disharmony whatsoever.

Incidentally, Chris Sutton states we've accepted £4m. So maybe its not so daft after all?

Premier League Southampton have come in and Celtic are right to jump at a fee of around £4million.

Likeable man and decent player -take the money, wish him well and move on. Sutton makes himself look small and silly with that comment.

There’s a fair bit of bitterness on here as well.

The guy has been here for 3.5 years which is a reasonable period. He’s been in and out of the team in that time and for a while was a truly key player.

I think he’s a really good player who has the potential to be even better. Whether he does or not isn’t clear.

I would have been gutted to see him go last summer. A year on, I’m still sorry to see him leave but the fact is that he’s not developed further in that time. Ntcham has settled in and is first choice now.

£7m is an excellent price if accurate. Seems to me like everyone got to eat their cake and have it in this instance

In the same article he states we must keep Boyata having previously slated him on a regular basis. I loved him as a player but can't be bothered with him now. It's all about him being noticed as opposed to being objective and consistent.
Armstrong served us well and is leaving us with both club and player profiting. Win win.

Good luck to him, always liked Armstrong as a player.

Fair play to him for wanting to test himself against better players & earning a fortune while doing it.

Edit: Sutton just looks/sounds like a gobshampooe with those comments.

Sutton makes a decent point though - Boyata is settled at Celtic and we need that stability for the qualifiers.

Keeping a settled Boyata for the CL qualifiers - whilst noting his mistakes over the last 2-3 years - are not contradictory positions.

If we get £7m, he can go to though
