I know that we can't expect to receive the same money as wee English teams do, and I know that he only has a year on his contract, but in a world where James(?) Maddison - the guy who did eff all on loan at Aberdeen in the same year that Armstrong was one of the best players in Scotland - is being sold for £20m we should absolutely be holding out for as much as possible for him. £6m is laughable when compared to the fee for Maddison, who didn't even look half as good for the sheep as Armstrong did for Dundee Utd. I'm not even sure if James is Maddison's first name, such was the impression that he made in Scotland.
Aye, but Maddison isn't getting signed for his exploits in Scotland. Presumably he had a very good season last year back down in England? Not trying to justify the £20mil price tag as that is completely ludicrous, but comparing him to Armstrong here doesn't hold much weight.

It was baby steps for him but he looked a real talent to me, peach against the zombies and those Sheep were desperate to keep him. There's a good few years between Maddison and Armstrong too.
Yeah? I honestly don't remember him doing anything of note, certainly not against us. I realise he's a few years younger than Armstrong, but it's not like Armstrong's in his 30s or anything. Anyway I guess Maddison must have come on loads at Norwich or wherever he's been playing this season, unless £20m is the going rate for a bog-standard player in England these days, which is entirely possible. I hate to think what some of those diddies playing for England last night must be worth.
McInnes was getting mocked for not starting him against ourselves and the zombies, he was probably protecting the young fella but who knows? He was gone as soon as he arrived, Norwich had their own plans for him, Aberdeen weren't allowed him back and moved for Ryan.

I thought Maddison looked a player at Aberdeen. Although I agree with £20 million being bonkers.

If he is going then fine but I hope it doesn't drag all summer. Hopefully everything can be arranged and announced quickly so we can move on.

He did look tidy..wonderful freekick in last minute against Huns....

Mcinnes kept him on the bench a lot for reasons known to only him.

The key part being he's English which automatically pushes the fee up. Supply and demand and all that. It's not really an indicator of how good they are but that there's so many cash-rich clubs chasing a limited pool of talent.

Do they still have that 'home-grown' quota in the EPL too? That will only help drive fees up further.

6 million would be great business for Armstrong. Take it and buy a quality right back and centre half.

“If”? - it’s been made very clear he’s not interested in staying.
The chances of getting more than 6 million for a player with one year left on his contract in Scotland who doesn’t start every game are non-existent
I see yon player Maddison Aberdeen had on loan from Norwich is supposed to be going to Leicester for 22 million. Now I know Armstrong has only one year left on his contract but I'd tell the can't he's staying.

6 million might get us one of those but probably not both.

I agree, looks a very good player.

Money is crazy down south but given he’s only 21 and had a deal at Norwich until 2021 the you begin to see where it’s coming from.

Aye. He signed a 12 month one last year - just as he did at Dundee United previously. He plays hardball with short contracts.

Which is cute if your form carries you on a continual upward trajectory. If it doesn't you end up looking a bit of a tit.

Maddison has had an outstanding season at Norwich and looks the real deal. I get why people are sceptical given his comparatively low-key loan spell at Aberdeen but a lot can happen in a year. When Edouard got a run of games before Christmas last season and looked average, who’d have guessed that six months later we’d all be delighted to be smashing our transfer record to sign him?

I obviously meant this year.

A year or so ago the manager was publicly stating we were negotiating with the player and giving occasional updates. This year it’s been fairly quiet on that front. To me that would suggest we’ve decided to sell him instead of offering any sort of extension.
