“If”? - it’s been made very clear he’s not interested in staying.
The chances of getting more than 6 million for a player with one year left on his contract in Scotland who doesn’t start every game are non-existent

All it takes is a few English clubs to see him as a decent squad player and a bidding war could hit £6m without them blinking.

£6m is pennies in English money.

Not saying we will get that, but it wouldn’t be impossible.

Bidding wars never happen.

Armstrong aside, it's about time we stood our ground with English clubs underpaying for Scottish players or foreign players with Scottish clubs. League 1 and Championship clubs are probable getting a bigger bang for their buck than we are when they sell a player to an EPL club. Southampton have cashed in big time on VVD and Victor.

I don’t disagree with your general point but..

We got c.£20m overall for VVD.

And we got £14m for Wanyama. He went to Spurs from Southampton for £11m.

Armstrong is that guy who plays for your Saturday morning team. Good player, comes from Clarkston I think. No one can really remember who first brought him to training but he comes out for a few pints after the game. Doesn't really say much, just laughs along kind of nervously, but he always gets his round in. Mostly stands at the back sipping his pint, before his missus picks him up about 4 o'clock in her silver Renault Clio. Sure he works for RBS through in Edinburgh.
 but so true

The other side though is seeing him struggle v Bayern away playing inside his own half

He has something which no one else has which could be really good for us if we had a defence in Europe

He needs educated but we also need to play a different way in Europe where he could be valuable

In europe we do need a Durrant breaking from midfield :ph43r:

You sense though he just doesn’t get how good it could be

Maybe BR has to say he’s going to do things differently in Europe and Armstrong needs to wise the eff up too

Wanyama only went for that as he had 1 year left on his contract...obviously would have paid much more otherwise and big Vic left on very unfriendly terms at St Marys because he stamped his feet so they were obliged to sell him for whatever.

I know that fine well but the poster said Southampton ‘cashed in big time’ with Victor.

No they didn’t.

He is a mug leaving us to head to a bottom/mid EPL club, if he signed another deal and had a great season with us he would have more options and we would get a better price, all he is doing is improving his bank balance a bit, he will end up going from club to club gradually working his way from bottom EPL clubs to the championship, will end up at hearts in 5 years.

What’s with all this nonsense convincing yourself that he must be making a Terrible decision?

He’s been here 4 years, won 9 trophies, and most likely will not be in our main starting X1 for the big games next season.

Good luck to him, I hope he has a great career down south and it shines a good light on Celtic.

I think we will too, and his sale will be good business for us.
Armstrong has been a decent signing and best of luck to him if he wants something new.

If Armstrong pushes on as I think he's capable that will still be a good buy in the English market. No guarantees with him but I think he'll do a good job down there and become a more consistent performer. I'd be slightly surprised if he plays for another mega club in his career but he is talented and will improve.

I know that we can't expect to receive the same money as wee English teams do, and I know that he only has a year on his contract, but in a world where James(?) Maddison - the guy who did eff all on loan at Aberdeen in the same year that Armstrong was one of the best players in Scotland - is being sold for £20m we should absolutely be holding out for as much as possible for him. £6m is laughable when compared to the fee for Maddison, who didn't even look half as good for the sheep as Armstrong did for Dundee Utd. I'm not even sure if James is Maddison's first name, such was the impression that he made in Scotland.

It was baby steps for him but he looked a real talent to me, peach against the zombies and those Sheep were desperate to keep him. There's a good few years between Maddison and Armstrong too.

Yeah? I honestly don't remember him doing anything of note, certainly not against us. I realise he's a few years younger than Armstrong, but it's not like Armstrong's in his 30s or anything. Anyway I guess Maddison must have come on loads at Norwich or wherever he's been playing this season, unless £20m is the going rate for a bog-standard player in England these days, which is entirely possible. I hate to think what some of those diddies playing for England last night must be worth.
