Think I am in the minority these days in that I would rather Armstrong stayed but if he really is wanting away get him away as soon as possible - He is not that good that he can play silly buggers with Celtic two season in a row.

He may get more money down South due to the ridiculous financial structuring down there but the limitations in his game will soon be shown up and he will not play for a bigger club than Celtic nor is he likely to win any more honours down there.
I agree.

You are saying you would rather he stayed but at the same time he's not that good and his limitations will get shown up, which seems a bit contradictory.

On his day he is superb but he can also be anonymous and it seems that's a feature of SA and has been throughout his career.
He wants to go then good luck to the guy.
You think?

I think it is reasonably obvious what was meant but you do like to try and pull people up Ess as is your way.

I would rather he stayed as on his game he can be a very good player in terms of what we have - He is no Larsson so he is not THAT good that he can mess Celtic about again - Not that Larsson did but Armstrong is nowhere near that level of player that Celtic should be drawn into last season's scenario.

He is again not a top,top flight player and he has limitations and those would be found out down there imo - That does not mean he is not a good player

Anyways if he goes I wish him good luck as well - He may kick on he may not - Personally I doubt he will but that is only my take and it would be better for Celtic's profile in terms of future revenue from sales if he did.

Agree with that.

One thing I’d add is that if we’re only offered £2m or less, I’d let the manager decide whether he wants to keep him for next season.

We missed him badly last season. If we don’t get someone else in who can do that job, then we lose a significant element of our attacking capability.

I wasn't trying to pull you up at all - just pointing out an inconsistency and trying to get what you mean, wasn't obvious to me

My view is that his form fluctuates and probably always will, some posters think we can get him playing consistently well - I don't agree with that

I'd be more than happy to see him stay but if his mind is set on going then punt ASAP and at least get some money in for him.

Definitely agree with the 'he'll never play for a bigger club than Celtic' part.

Don't think we can be so sure about the rest. A number of players have gone down south and done well for themselves, some even looking better than they did when playing in Scotland.

He either signs a new contract tomorrow or he can be sold at the butcher's auction at Govan market on Saturday. Fact.

Put me in the 'would like him to stay as long as he's not dead set on leaving/we aren't getting huge money for him' camp. I actually think he's got a lot of room for improvement and could be really, really good if he keeps developing. Strikes me as a bit of a late bloomer.

If he does go, i wonder if it will open up an opportunity for Christie to stake a claim for a place in the squad. Armstrong is the only central/attacking midfielder in our squad that actually runs beyond the ball and the striker.... not something Brown, Ntcham, Rogic (and you can add McGregor to that list too, tho he's probably the most likely to - but looks to have claimed the left wing position). Again, mcginn wont provide that style of play, from what I've seen of him.

That leaves the option of give Christie a chance, til Jan at least, or bring in another player... and, given the need for atleast another winger, RB and centre half (along with French Eddy coming in) i think Rodgers might be inclinded to go with the later. I'm not saying Christie will be in the starting XI (Armstrong rarely was this season), but it makes sence to give him a chance before going out and splashing cash on ANOTHER midfielder.

It's strange that Callum McGregor still has doubters (including myself, up until a few months back) despite putting in consistent performances, yet Armstrong is largely regarded as a good, reliable player solely because of a six month purple patch.

Seems like a intelligent and likeable lad but despite his ability I have long harboured doubt about his mentality in the big games. If we are losing then he tends to hide a bit, in other words...not a guy to be stuck in the trenches with.

Wish him all the best, and I'm sure he'll have a decent career. Doubt he'll do much better than lower premiership, upper championship level tbh.

I like him as a player but wouldn't be spending much time trying to convince him to stay.

It’s probably the right move when you consider the form of Rogic, Ntcham and McGregor.

At this stage in his career it’s the right time to move, as he will be on rotation here and probably not a starter for our biggest games.
If he his going to be a squad player then it may as well be an earner for him.

He’s been a good signing, but “we never replaced Stuart Armstrong” will be said by nobody, ever.

If he's offered that and doesn't take, he needs his head checked. Money isn't everything but as he's training to be a solicitor, maybe it is to him.

I think he's great and would love to see him stay. Just not at any price.

Armstrong is that guy who plays for your Saturday morning team. Good player, comes from Clarkston I think. No one can really remember who first brought him to training but he comes out for a few pints after the game. Doesn't really say much, just laughs along kind of nervously, but he always gets his round in. Mostly stands at the back sipping his pint, before his missus picks him up about 4 o'clock in her silver Renault Clio. Sure he works for RBS through in Edinburgh.

Hope we get some decent money for him.
Other than that , he gets on my nerves as appears to be a journey man.
