If and when he goes I'll be glad to see (hear?) the back of that ridiculous song. I know I'm in the vast minority in that regard.
"vast minority" just sounds wrong  Agree with the sentiments on that awful dirge of a song though.

He's vastly overrated.

He looks good when the team is playing well and creating space for him. He goes missing when the team isn't firing on all cylinders.

Edit: He won't be missed.
Don't agree. There were a few games in the Invincibles season where Armstrong stood up when the rest of the team were struggling. 4-3 Motherwell game, 1-1 Huns game and Scottish Cup final v Sheep being prime examples.
Was also back to his best at the tail end of last season.

Best outcome for us is to get him signed up again but that option is looking more and more unrealistic.

would like for him to stay but at this point willing to get rid and use the money we get elsewhere in the squad where its needed more than central midfield. he was pretty good overall

Firstly, Armstrong wants to move so we don't have an option anyhow. Secondly, there's a lot of chat of 'Brendan might get him back to 2016-17 form'. But 2016-17 was an utter anomaly in his career - last season's form was the norm.

1. He's scored an average of 5 goals per season since 2010.

2. Of his 48 career goals across nine seasons since 2010, 17 were scored in 2016-17 (35% of his career total).

3. He's scored 27 goals for Celtic in four seasons, 17 came in 2016-17 - (63% of overall Celtic total).

[Taken from Wiki figures]

Stuart isn't is good as he thinks he is. He certainly isn't good enough to use Celtic as a stepping stone or to run his contract down for his average return of 5 goals next year.

Basing it on goals is a bit narrow no?

The boys a good player and he's well within his rights and ability to see Celtic as a stepping stone to England as are all the players we sign .

If he runs down his contract it isn't ideal but if Brendan can get a tune out of him he's a valuable asset and offers something nothing of our other pantheon of midfielders does. It was even visible again near the end of the season there.

I'd sell him though.
He's vastly overrated.

I'm guessing you haven't read this thread.

He's a good player, he's with a coach that will actually develop him into a better player. Makes sense for both parties that he signs a new deal.

That’s fine, if it’s solely about football, which clearly it isn’t

This thread is full of people desperate for him to stay, despite the fact hes been pish for just under 3 of his 3 and a half years here and has been rippin the carrot in the boardroom as well.

So I'd say the guy has a point

Stuart is a very good player.
He's made some fantastic interventions for us, such as the fifth goal against the huns and his incredible performance at Fir Park in the 4-3 game.
I'd love him to stay - but if he's being offered £30k a week at an EPL team then good luck to him.
I like the lad and wish him well.

He can offer some movement and direct play that our other midfielders don't really have in the bag (if you exclude Rogic and McGregor who are higher up the pitch) and, on his day, can absolutely change games. There's not enough evidence of that from last season though and if he's not keen on staying then I see no reason why this should even be a discussion. As it stands, I'd rather have the money to put into a RB than keep Armstrong.

There's also the chance that Palace put up a much bigger fee than we'd be expecting because they've got a well earned reputation as inefficient spenders in that financial mess of a league (Google "Zaha wage" for a laugh).

It'll get slapped down at the PC today if not.

Fits with what's been coming out from itks and CQN etc, and his shenanigans last year.

Supposed Celtic targets Jordon Ayew and Chancel Mbemba both rumoured to be moving WestHam and Porto respectively for in excess of £8M each.

Think I am in the minority these days in that I would rather Armstrong stayed but if he really is wanting away get him away as soon as possible - He is not that good that he can play silly buggers with Celtic two season in a row.

He may get more money down South due to the ridiculous financial structuring down there but the limitations in his game will soon be shown up and he will not play for a bigger club than Celtic nor is he likely to win any more honours down there.

You are saying you would rather he stayed but at the same time he's not that good and his limitations will get shown up, which seems a bit contradictory.

On his day he is superb but he can also be anonymous and it seems that's a feature of SA and has been throughout his career.
He wants to go then good luck to the guy.

I'm with you in that minority, but at the moment it looks like this will only end one way.

He may well have been badly advised but he was still one of the Invincibles.

Depending on where he ends up, some of the games may actually suit him as he is unlikely to be playing against teams that put ten men behind the ball and pack out their defence.

You think?

I think it is reasonably obvious what was meant but you do like to try and pull people up Ess as is your way.

I would rather he stayed as on his game he can be a very good player in terms of what we have - He is no Larsson so he is not THAT good that he can mess Celtic about again - Not that Larsson did but Armstrong is nowhere near that level of player that Celtic should be drawn into last season's scenario.

He is again not a top,top flight player and he has limitations and those would be found out down there imo - That does not mean he is not a good player

Anyways if he goes I wish him good luck as well - He may kick on he may not - Personally I doubt he will but that is only my take and it would be better for Celtic's profile in terms of future revenue from sales if he did.

Yes the two banks of defenders against Celtic in nearly every game was very frustrating - That and the Perthshire Farmers/Family Club Managers setting them up to kick feck out of Celtic players at every opportunity.

I think had we had Roberts playing regularly he would have unlocked those defensive set-ups but at the end of the day all was good if not quite the heights we anticipated on the park on the basis of kicking on another level from the Invincibles season.
