Good player, more to come from him. Play him instead of Johansen.
I like him mate, classy big player, but not on the left.

When Allan and Christie get on the scene, I think he might struggle for a place imo.
I'd like to see Armstrong, Allan & Christie get a run of games together as the 3, while being allowed to interchange places with each other during the game as they see fit

I really like him. Comfortable on the ball and a very good passer.

I think there is a lot more to come from him. He's never really looked fully fit since he got here. If he can keep clear of injuries for a few months, I think we'll begin to see the best of him.

I'd rather we played him in the Johansen role. He has to be better than him or Rogic in there.

There's going to be some amount of competition in the midfield positions very soon.

He looks as if he's got the potential to be a good player for us but he'll need to start showing it or he might disappear.

There's Brown, Bitton, Forrest, Armstrong, GMS, Commons, Johansen, Allan, Rogic, McGregor (and Christie in January) all looking for a spot. Really only four spaces up for grabs when you consider Brown is an automatic pick.

Rogic 'had to be better than johansen in there' and now folk are turning on him.

If Armstrong got a run of games in the middle the same would happen with him.

Which games did Armstrong play in an attacking central midfield role?

I can only think of one where be played deeper in CM.

He's as good as we're going to get to fill one of those Home Grown European squad places.

Will probably be at Burnley in 3 years time.
Mibbe sooner, he only signed a 3 year deal.

Needs to develop an aggressive streak.
Yet to see him have a great game, miles off the level required at the moment, raise your game or move on.

Rogic realistically was never going to be consistently better there. Lacks a yard of pace and the nous/physicality for away games.

Considering that he's only just back from injury and has had a lot of good games for us, I'm surprised how little patience people seem to have with him.

He's a really good midfielder. He will get better and I think will grow into an even better player.

Talent is there and we seem not to be using him correctly. Impressed at United and they had a poorer squad than us. That suggests we are doing something wrong in getting the best of him. He has talent and vision.
Thought his comments pre Motherwell were telling.

He spoke about how he always enjoyed playing at Fir Park because Well played a high line against Utd, leaving lots of space in behind.

Teams tend not to play like that against us, so he's having to get used to closer marking and a new way of playing football.

Moving from provincial clubs to Celtic isn't easy.

I think that's all true and also the obvious 'big fish small pond' thing. A guy who looks a cut above at Dundee Utd won't necessarily be a stand out at Celtic - certainly not straight away.

GMS has to be better than Forrest, Mulgrew has to be better than Izzy, now Armstrong, Christie, and Allan must be better than Forrest, Rogic, Johansen, and Commons.

At least 1 of them will never be more than a squad player.

Best of all our young(ish) attacking midfielders outwith Forrest whom he's cleverer than. He can play left and play there well. Just this season before his injury he was one of our best players. In time he'll move inside, probably when Johansen leaves, and Christie or someone else will take the wide role.

Would like to see him play on the right. He's intelligent and technically good enough to play well there. Some of his best games for Utd were from the right, where he played more as an box to box wide midfielder as opposed to a centre mid or winger - like Stan used to do for us. Forrest is better than him on the left IMO - Armstrong can beat players but he has more to his game than that and his lack of pace reduces his effectiveness on the left wing. I think he would make more impact over he course of 90 minutes from a more natural centre or right position.
