We should have just effed him off and put an end to it this season instead of waiting till next summer.
Why?
Because I can't be arsed with another Stuart Armstrong saga next summer, he's not a guaranteed starter now, midfield is our strongest area, and he wants away so sell him and get someone else in.
Maybe better get used to transfer saga - it shows we are doing something right
The plan of developing players and selling on, if successful, will inevitably lead to a conflict of interest and won't always produce the ideal result for us, just the optimum one.

For the people saying why not sell him now as we're covered there.

The whole point of having cover is we can now play most in the midfield without the standard dropping too much, which is great.

Doesn't surprise me at all. It just reinforces the idea that we are a selling club. It's simply reality that we are now the largest fish in a very small pond. Sell him on, invest the cash in new hopefuls and move on.
Every club is a selling club.
Indeed.
Apart from Barcelona..oh wait.
Aye, your right.

Great he has signed a deal. We can now sell him for £10 mill instead of £3 mill.

Clearly his mind is on leaving. We should make sure we take full advantage of that.

A possibility he will fizzle out a bit, I don't think his side have handled things brilliantly, they've played hardball but it's clearly affected Stuart and he's lost his place in the team for now. He will need to find an extra layer if he's thinking of doing well in England further down the road with the squads they carry and the competition for places.

I reckon he'll improve this season and have a solid end to the season before being sold for £10m+ Next summer.

Glad he's staying but can't help feeling a wee bit disappointed it's not for 3 years. He'll be off this time next year for sure so it does seem this is the best compromise we could negotiate. I just hope he can stay focused enough to be the player he was last year, never mind continue to improve: I know he has the incentive to play out of his socks to get the best move possible but if his he's already set on a move that can nobble his game.

All it takes is a wee word in his ear in January and he's into don't get injured mode. Suppose it's better than nothing though. Would punt him in January masel.

People are saying we'll be in the same position in 12 months time but I think that the psychology will be very different.

I don't think most people (Armstrong included) were ready to let him go this season. I think the mood has steadily shifted on that as the months have dragged on and I think most people (including again the player and also BR) will be ready for that to happen next year.

Even in the last couple of weeks he's gone from being a must-start to a player who is great to have in the squad.

He done alright. Worked hard to try and get into the game but suffered like the rest from the overall lack of cohesion (and awful pitch).

Good enough.

We'll punt him in a year. Meanwhile we keep a good player going forward.

In a nutshell.
