I think if Armstrong plays this season like he did last season then I think we would be willing to renegotiate his contract and make him one of our top earners.I think we feel he's got to play well more than a season to earn the right to be one of our highest earners and if he plays really well then we can look at his contract. |

They appear to be keen to stay at the club whereas Armstrong looks like his mind is already made up. |

He obviously sees his immediate future at Celtic, which makes him no different to anyone else in the squad. Dembele probably doesn't expect to be here in two years time. Simunovic likewise. Roberts appears to be signing just a nine-month loan deal. I don't see why folk are in a rush to get Armstrong out the door for possibly having one eye on playing somewhere else in the future and not apply that same logic to others in the squad who are in the same boat. |

I think the way it has been implied in the thread by people hearing how the contract talks went and how long, for basically a year extension, looks like there was a lot of stalling, maybe not the clubs he was looking for bidding for him. When others have extended it has been two/three years, I imagine we will start talks with the others as the season progresses on if they wish to extend or not, if not i imagine then we will be open to offers. Personally I think we will be willing to listen to offers for him in January, he may not get as much game time as he anticipates in that period unless his form improves a lot. |

Reading between the lines on Rodgers quotes, Armstrong wants to play in the EPL and I'm guessing he will be away next summer. |

I don't doubt that he's tempted to play in England one day. Who wouldn't be? I just feel some folk are unfairly implying that he doesn't want to be here when the reality is he's signed a contract extension that he didn't need to sign, and in the process forfeited his chance to speak to other clubs this January and sign a lucrative pre-contact with someone. He may well leave next summer. But so might Dembele, Roberts and Simunovic, all of whom presumably have their long-term sights set on life beyond the SPL. |

I suspect he has climbed down for no other reason than he has been told he can go next year - in the meantime the contract talks go away, he gets more money and the club still get a fee next year. Stuart Armstrong, imo, will not be at the club for anything longer than another season. |

I don't think Armstrong is well enough established that he can take for granted that a big money offer will be on the table next summer. He's no Dembele. At the moment he's probably not even in our strongest starting XI. I think both he and the club will play things by ear this season, keep their options open and be fairly open minded about what might happen beyond this year. That's fair enough in my opinion. He was fully prepared to let his contract run down and leave in the summer anyway. This deal does nothing to change this imo except he will be still under contract and we will get a fee. I think he signed it because they ran the risk of him being out of the team and having no bargaining chip come the summer. IMO he does not see himself at Celtic beyond this season. |

If he's so keen to leave, and we're willing to sell next summer anyway, why wouldn't we just sell now? His stock is high, there are plenty lower to mid-level EPL clubs looking for midfielders and we're well covered in that area anyway. If this is all just delaying the inevitable, I don't see who benefits. I genuinely think that Armstrong believes Celtic is the best place for him to be right now. Whether that's still the case at the end of the season remains to be seen. |

We won't sell now presumably because he still fancies another season at Celtic before moving south. And we still fancy a year with him in the team. Even if he was inclined to play for the two years he has left, we aren't going to let him run his last year down. I'd put my mortgage on this being his last season at the club. Had he not signed this extension I think we'd have sold him - so all we have done is kick the can down the road for another 12 months - which appears to suit both parties. |

I agree with you. What i dont get is why not sell him now. We have plenty options the now. If its true we could get £5m for him now we couldve used that for positions where we are weak. |

I agree although if a decent enough bid comes in over the 2 weeks then I think we would accept it. |

The other way to see it, I guess, is that another season like last with 20 plus goals will see his stock rise further. I don't think the club is desperate for the cash and he isn't desperate to leave right away. I believe he was inclined to let his contract run down but has climbed down from that with a promise he can go if a suitable offer comes in next summer. Either way, I think this is his last season - Rodgers' comments on it are very telling. He wants to play in the EPL and he wants the cash. |

Agree with you Murphio that he won't be here in 12 months time. Wouldn't surprise me if the continent is his destination and not the EPL. |

I agree that this is his last season. If he gets back to form, the £3m we would get now will be £10m this time next season. We get another season of stability and he might get a better club than WBA or Swansea -- win-win! |

Add in the advantage to celtic that they will know he will be leaving next summer and they can plan accordingly. This is a good deal for Celtic. Maybe not as good as him signing a longer term deal but definitely better than the two other options of selling him now cheap or keeping an unhappy Stuart Armstrong for a year. |

Because I can't be arsed with another Stuart Armstrong saga next summer, he's not a guaranteed starter now, midfield is our strongest area, and he wants away so sell him and get someone else in. |

You can't expect every player to be dyed in the wool fanatics who have supported the club from the womb. So long as while he's here he gives his all I have no qualms about any player taking advantage of better pay elsewhere. I seriously doubt that while he may appreciate the pay increase, he will experience a greater thrill than being involved in a successful Celtic side in front of 60,000 punters on a CL night. Monday night Football for lower EPL sides don't cut that mustard |
