Sell him in January.
Why January when we can get a fee for him next summer?

Madness.

Big Tom dancing his way through defences , they think they have it sorted on comes Stuart breaking beyond the striker and joining attacks late . A centre backs nightmare. Either injured , on you come Calum .
Brendan will be delighted this is giving him so many options.

So it's only a one year extension and next summer we are right back in the same situation? Bizarre.

Reminds me of the Petrov extension years back. Not that i'm complaining if it gets us more money.

The fishal announcement said until "at least" 2019, so presumably there's an option of at least one more year based on certain criteria being met. Would be interesting to know what those criteria are.
Aye, I wondered about the strange wording of the tweet. Seemed ambiguous.
Could be one of those Thiago contracts he's signed. Play me for 80%+ of games and I have a high release clause / a year's extension is triggered. Anything less and I can leave for ten bob.

Maybe I'm just making it all up based on absolutely nothing

Except Koussi and Ntcham could be settled and playing great, then he's done his bit and can maybe leave at a better time for us and him. Risk on his side is if he can't get a game, and Southampton / WBA / whoever spot a new kid on the block.

We may well do that the way Nitcham and McGregor are playing right now.

We should have just effed him off and put an end to it this season instead of waiting till next summer.

That was my initial reaction too but I suppose it gives both sides a bit of breathing space. Armstrong obviously doesn't have anything concrete lined up or he wouldn't be extending. From our perspective, we can see how things pan out this season. He might decide in a few months time that he'd like to negotiate a longer deal. Or he might decide he definitely wants to go. Either way, it calms everything down for the immediate future and gives him - and us - the chance to focus on the football for a while.

He scores a couple of goals in the CL groups and we sell for £20m in January.

From a source inside my own head.

We don't need to wait till next summer. It is a good deal that gives Celtic some control of the situation and some freedom for a player who has ambitions to play elsewhere.

Good as a new signing for me. Stuart is not a player we'd find it easy to replace at his best. We're a better side with him in it.

A pretty unsatisfying compromise. Gives us a bit of strength in depth for the next season. If we don't have European football post Christmas I'd punt him January.

I'd punt him in January regardless. We shouldn't be going through this guff annually for Stuart Armstrong. Get more money with 18 months left on his contract (assuming he can get a game this season that is).

There are several players in the squad, including Scott Brown, Rogic, Boyata and Lustig, whose deals all expire before or at the same time as Armstrong's new deal.
