Not surprised theres a negative reaction to our third choice central midfielder (who's had a good six months) signing a contract after him and his agent played hard ball with the club ;)

So it is effectively a years extension, which means we will probably have to look at moving him on at the end of the season. Hopefully he goes on to have a great season and we get big money for him.

Sounds to me like he is still for the off,but he gets a pay rise and the club will get a bit more leeway with the fee.

Suits us.
Plays well and gets punted at a fee that is more than the silly 3m reportedly offered.

He is obviously still for the off sooner rather than later - However if he gets his act together now we have another very good midfield player for this season who carries much more of a goalscoring threat than Brown and Nitcham do - Any remaining quality signings this window well not be a midfield player as that is our strongest position and we have other more urgent priorities - Hopefully he will have a cracking season and we will get a good price for him - After that we may well be back in for another midfielder if Armstrong leaves with Brown by then being 33 albeit Nitcham is Brown's successor we still want strength in mf.

Winners: Armstrong (big wage increase this year), his agent (options still open to move him on over the next year or so), the Club (we can sell in the next window, or in the summer when we would otherwise have lost him for nothing).

Losers: KDS faithful (who are destined to repeat the horrors of this thread and the transfer thread again next summer), lovers of Armstrong's hair (he'll be away in 2018).

Glad that he's staying for this season, but it looks like he'll certainly be leaving next summer. I take it his contract will have a decent release clause in it?

It's now up to him to get his head back in the game and make sure that all the time and effort that's gone into this is not a waste.

There's no guarantee that Armstrong will fetch a higher fee in a year's time. He's just had the best season of his career, but he's made a slow start this season and-given the form of others- starting places will probably be much rarer for him.

Glad this is over for another year anyway.

Above all else the manager clearly rates him highly and was desperate for him to stay. Glad the club got it sorted even if it's not the rumoured 2020 deal from earlier.

We'll get one of our most important players from the best season most of us have ever seen for a year longer than we thought this time last week and an extra year to sort out a replacement.

Now get Roberts and it will have been another fantastic week.

Not ideal, but I'm glad he has put pen to paper on some sort of contract extension.

Hopefully he can have as good a season as he did last year.

Middle ground, that's fine.

We've got him for the group stages now, and as others have said it won't be a surprise to see him leave for a decent fee in January.

There's no negatives here, despite the doom and gloom merchants who are trying desperately to find one.

If he goes in January or the summer, we get a hefty fee, if he stays longer and continues to develop then even better.
