2 year deal? Seriously??

To me, this says we punt him in January for decent money. Especially if Ntcham continues his brilliant form.

Good news. We have a very strong midfield right now.

that sounds like a compromise deal . Perhaps Stuart has seen the potential of Ntcham and Kouassi, and is hedging his bets.
Whatever it is, hope he gets his game head back on and gets back to last season's excellent level of performance.
That's how I see it, too. He can possibly see a season of much reduced game time, but hopefully can now concentrate and that will get him back to his best form.

I quite like the thought of him and the other players competing to be first choice. Win win for us.

Good incentive for him to deliver a stormer of a season this year :)

I agree - he clearly sees himself in the EPL making serious wedge soonish.

He will do well though to hold down a regular place this season with us.

He'll probably be gone in January, otherwise we'll be back in the same situation this time next year.

Jam back on.

Well if he wants a big money move he'll have to get his finger out. Had a poor start to the season and will struggle to get back into a starting slot in the team until injuries and form loss hit.

Still it's one thing less to disrupt the team.

I wonder who'll go, someone has to. We've currently got 8 players (Brown, Ntcham, Rogic, Kouassi, Armstrong, McGregor, Bitton, Henderson) for 3 spots, and Johnston and Benyu (both of whom I think will end up out on loan) can also play the attacking midfield role. You'd think Henderson will go but 7 players for 3 starting spots is a bit much. I'd imagine in an ideal world Rodgers would want 5 or 6.

This isn't quite the same as the Petrov deal, as Stan was an automatic first choice pick whereas Armstrong isn't in that position.

He clearly fancies a move to England in the not too distant future, but he'll know that the difference between a move to a Championship team and a move to an EPL team (let alone a reasonably decent, established EPL team) will be his performance this season.

Given that there's real competition for a place in any of our midfield positions this year, hopefully that will see him working really hard to make himself a regular starter for us. We get the benefit of him being a very good player, he gets the benefit of not fading into obscurity.

I honestly don't see a problem with this. Did people expect him to sign a new 5 year deal or something?

Don't think so. 3 years would have been sufficient. A 1 year extension doesn't really settle anything as the transfer/contract situation will still be in his mind and the mind of the supports this year. Think we'll look to cash in during the January window.

Celtic have strengthened our hand. If the boy goes now, so be it. Most of us were resigned to losing him for eff all.

Now, we've a good player - re-focused hopefully - for the long season ahead. We've still got things to win at home. We'll need a squad of players to do that.

We can rotate now, all with players we know how to play system.

Exactly. Utterly bizarre reaction to this.

We'll now make decent money from a player who doesn't see his long term future with us. Int he mean time he's all signed up and can carry on playing and hopefully get back to his form of last season.

In a way his contract situation is what it was last season. He went on to do fine after that.

But yes, I think he'll be away in January.

I would've just sold him now for £4m/£5m.

The fact he's only extended by 12 months shows he doesn't want to be here long term whereas other guys do, eff him and his gorgeous hair.
