The problem I see is him featuring less this year due to the emergence of Ntcham and development of Mcgregor. If he features less, I doubt there will be many teams lining up to pay £7 million for him. A team will judge you on what you're currently doing, not what you done 8 months ago.

Looking forward to being in the same position next summer...

That said, I can still see him being punted in January for a couple of million more than was touted this summer. If it settles him for the foreseeable, then at least that's a positive.

The Stan Petrov shop window.
Did Petrov not say he immediately regretted signing that new contract with us after he did it. Never got the impression he signed it to do us any favours tbh
He did.

Loved Stan as a player and he played a massive part in our success back then however I lost a lot of respect for him when we won title under WGS – cant remember the year. Trophy day when we won title at CP and he was in the picture with his face utterly tripping him when rest all celebrated in the team photo. Really evident he looked as though he wanted to be anywhere but there. Remember the photo clearly.

Seemed not to get on with WGS (which is nothing new to be fair) but that day he could have put a face on for us especially as he most probably knew he was off. Pretty sure he left to Villa month or so after it but was not good to see.

It's all gone a bit 'Stan Petrov'
It has. But that's fine. We're in a better position today than we were yesterday, and if he's set on a move elsewhere hopefully he can raise his game for us in the meantime and earn us a good fee. In the short term, I'm pleased he's staying. Lots might happen in the next year, and he might decide he wants to stay with us and Brendan for a pop at the big cup after all :ph43r: .

I honestly don't see a problem with this. Did people expect him to sign a new 5 year deal or something?

Agree, and it looks that way.

A reasonable compromise.

He can put all this to bed & concentrate on hitting the heights from last season again.

He'll get his move / payday & we'll get a decent wedge.

Let's move on.

Good enough.

We'll punt him in a year. Meanwhile we keep a good player going forward.

This. A full season of the form he showed from October onwards and we'll get a good wedge for him.

He's always going to try his hand in England at some point, sensible enough deal from us.

So a guy who was immense last season signs a new deal giving Celtic more control over him (and any future transfer) and this upsets the KDS natives. Brilliant
We'd all (well most of us) would take Roberts back on a one year deal. We get a one year extension with Armstrong, almost certainly getting us at least a better deal if/when he does leave, and people are trashing the flowers they bought him, downing a bottle of whisky and driving through the rain with broken window wipers to beechy head.

So the player gets a (presumably massive) rise in salary for the remainder of his existing contract and a further 12 months.

In return, he commits for the extra 12 months but, in effect, will be free to talk to other teams, 18 months from now, with a view to moving on a Bosman.

The club get some wriggle room to either come up with an even more lucrative, long-term deal for him or try to get him moved on for a transfer fee.

All round, I think Armstrong wins from this deal. He could continue to excel or he could regress again, who knows? He gets another year of Champions League and he knows that next year, it will be much more difficult for us to qualify. So maybe he moves on then, aged 26.

Pretty sweet.

This contract ensures we'll get £7/8m in January for him, fine by me
And for a player we bought for buttons and who did really well last season, it's not such a bad outcome. :)

He was immense for 4 months of last season, mainly down to Rodgers guidance I am sure given his form under Deila, so his lack of commitment to the club & the manager is bound to piss people off.

I am pretty sure no one is annoyed at the clubs efforts here.

2 years is a tad confusing after all the 6 months protracted is he/will he guff we have had..

Go through the same pish in 12 months? And that will most probably happen.

Glad he is staying but underlying he will move in 12 months.
He will go next summer. But this time we will know he is going and we will shift him early. This extension is better for us now in that we might get the very good player we had last year for another season, we will then get a better price for him in June to buy a replacement. Not a perfect deal but better for us than him sitting around another year in the reserves or even him moving next week for three million.

As for the lack of commitment etc type comments in fairness to the guy he is now going into his eighth season in the SPL. Maybe he fancies a change after playing in this league and the same teams four or five times a season.

Disappointing news but better than him leaving for £3mil. Hopefully he kicks on and we either pocket a hefty fee or can justify giving him a more long-term deal.

Not at all but think we were all hoping he would be here long term especially when 4 year deal was on the table as we were led to believe. Think pretty much we can see he does not want to be here long term & wants to go elsewhere which is obviously fine for both parties hence him signing so club will have a plan next year to offload if offer comes in.

Think most of us are fine with this (2 years albeit confused after all the back and forth stuff) but we dont not want this full 6 months to sign pish we have just been through..

12 months out of him then tata Stuarty Bhoy!

The fishal announcement said until "at least" 2019, so presumably there's an option of at least one more year based on certain criteria being met. Would be interesting to know what those criteria are.

So effectively a 1 year extension then and no doubt a healthy increase in salary. Agent has played a blinder here and head most definitely turned. Seems a clever guy so much so that he's clever enough to avoid any emotional attachment to the club and have himself an 'out' lined up for next season.

Would be inclined to use him sparingly as back up for Ntcham but trouble with that is his value aint going to increase much come January but obvious no long term commitment from him to Celtic with this deal which is a bit of kick in the stones given where he has come from over last couple of seasons.
