if we are not improving our offer or altering it - and i don't see why we should given it would appear his agent has simply blanked us

then he should be out of the first team squad post astana (and given his form he probably won't get near playing) whether we are thru or not

there's a danger that his sale value to us drops but there's probably more of a danger to him that his deal worsens with absolutely no game time

simply leaving a deal on the table and keeping him playing till he gets to january aint an option
His so-called loss of form is a massive exaggeration. Aye, he's had a couple of games which he was poor in like others.
Whit? He's a been pish since the season began. How much of that is down to the "in his head" stuff and how much of it is down to hardly any Summer break I don't know but Armstrong has been a shadow of the guy who dominated games for us last season.

Very candid interview, I'm sure Stuart's representatives are giving him advice but as others have said he can chose whether to take it.

You wonder what is holding the deal up. Rogers saying that he wants to stay.

His agents aren't holding a gun to his head, if he really wanted to stay, then he would be accepting the deal.

I don't think it' good for the club or the player to allow something like this to drag on and on.
Celtic should - if we have not already done so - put their best offer on the table with a time limit for acceptance. If the time limit is allowed to pass then we should be trying to punt him. If we can't punt him before the window closes I'd leave him out the team as far as possible until he's gone.

Reports that Swansea have offered £6m for him. Given they've just taken in £45m for Sigurdsson I can see us holding out for more, if we do indeed decide that we are willing to sell

He wants to stay - for 40k a week.
We want him to stay - for 10k a week.

Wonder what is holding the deal up?

£6 million for a guy who can leave for free in nine months time and who no longer appears to be a guaranteed starter, sounds like an excellent price for us.

Absolutely. Though if we can get more, Lawwell will be the man to do it. For all his faults, he does get good deals for outgoing players. He got over a million quid for Heid and also for hoof IIRC. :worthy: Don't think he bothered with a sell-on clause for those two right enough. Hope he wore a mask too.

Aye, I reckon if that were true we'd be biting some carrots arm off for it.

I very much doubt we have offered him 10k a week. BR would not be saying he has been made a very, very good offer if it were 10k.

Let's not overlook that Stuart has a mouth in his head, he could have spoken at any time over the last 6 weeks to state clearly that he wants to go/stay. It strikes me Stuart is playing a hard game here so let's call it just that, he's entitled to do that and get his best deal and that's exactly what he's doing, he's not a helpless bystander in all this
Well worded and to the point. Armstrong is an intelligent guy so he holds the aces, however I think we all would respect him more if he was honest and stated his intentions either way.

He's under no obligation to share anything about his private contract dealings with us fans. It couldn't be any less of our business. Him and the club are dealing with it. I want him to stay. If he doesn't then we'll have to deal with that.

Honestly the notion some fans have about what they should be privy to is mind boggling at times.

Tweak the numbers to your heart's content. That's what is holding the deal up.

I'd personally guess he's already on his way, BR knows too but they aren't saying as he wants him available for qualifiers and football fans being such children, some will be openly hostile to him, potentially affecting the team. Then fans complain about being left in the dark.

Lawwell would have him signed sealed and delivered before you finished your post if that were true.

To be fair, it's not just fans who are hostile to wantaway players. Aberdeen stripped Ryan Jack of the captaincy when they heard he might be joining Sevco and countless clubs have effectively frozen players out once they'd decided not to renew their contracts (we sort of did it with Liam Miller back in the day, barely playing him after he signed a pre-contract with Man Utd).

If that's the number, see ye. Some players I can see they have reached a certain level with us and it's time to stretch themselves. That's just not the case for me with Armstrong. I think he's selling us (and ultimately himself) short. Take the money and juice the squad up.

Some people seem to think that because he is smart enough to do a law degree, he is some sort of genius. There are some utter buffoons in the legal profession (including on the bench). Law as a degree is simple compared with say medicine and many other science or maths based degrees. I say this as someone who spent most of their law degree in Tennents Bar and the bookies. There were about 20 hours a week of classes, about 1/3 of which were compulsory attendance. Any avid reader on this forum with a reasonable degree of retention would skate a law degree.

While it'd be a good deal for the situation we're in, it'll be a shame if he does go now for £6m noo. If he signed a new deal and kicked on in a great CL campaign he could go for £10m+ in January and earn an even bigger contract at probably a better club than Swansea. Which is a bit more of a 'everyone's a winner scenario'.
