Well if you're going to make things up...there's nowhere I said we're open to low offers.

Well I mean for a start it's £3 million that's being quoted here, not "nearly £4 million".
That would be the suggested fee (which isn't set in stone, obv) plus his wages. Which I guess is nearly £4m.

The context of this entire conversation though is what the buying club is offering, so we're only talking about a £3 million figure.

Wow, you really do make things up.

You still haven't answered why selling one of our first teamers in the last year of his contract for 3 million sends a message to all of football that we will take low offers for everybody

Even if it's a £3 million transfer fee, the situation remains the same.

You clearly think it's better if we run down Armstrong's contract so we get nothing for him next summer, fine.

We're talking about what the cost/benefit would be to selling him now for £3m v keeping him. That would have to include his wage.

Given the prevailing outlook is to stuff him in the youth team, it's effin Malcolm Allison style of management FFS

I'm trying to think of a serious, respected club that does this sort of thing these days.

Not these days. It would cause uproar in the dressing room, particularly given how well liked Armstrong is with his team mates.

To be clear btw, I'm not advocating him being shunted into the reserves. If he can stay focused he's the second name on the team sheet for me after Brown.

So Armstrong is more of a guaranteed starter in your opinion than Tierney at left back and Sinclair on the left wing?

What that market value is affected by sale history? That's pretty obvious.

Really? How come we sold our first pick CB for 2 million quid and a couple or three years later sold his replacement for almost seven times that amount??

With two years left on his contract? Aye, that's a great idea.
Well why not, you're already open to low offers on our players by accepting £3 million for Armstrong. In fact why not just tell Southampton they only need to offer £1.5 million?

Just for a bit of contrast here, Andy Yiadom formerly of the mighty Barnet and Barnsley has signed for Huddersfield for £3 million because he was on the last year of his contract. Yet people on here think we as a Champions League club should be selling one of our best players to a Premiership club who are effing MINTED for the same figure because we might not get anything?

Naw.
Sums it up perfectly. Tell them tgtf

If he's not signing then try and sell him to the highest bidder, if he refuses to go we are gubbed unless he has a change of mind. If he stays he needs to be used when required as we have to pay him anyway.

Not ideal however we have benefitted from Bosman signings in the past and its part of football nowadays.

Because one wasn't particularly good and the other is potentially world class. It's not exactly a like for like comparison is it?
