Really want him to stay but if he's not gonna sign in the next couple weeks he should be punted and replaced.

SOUTHAMPTON could make a £3million bid for Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong before the transfer window closes.

The English Premiership side have moved to the front of the queue in the fight to land the Scottish international.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to keep the 25-year-old, but both sides are still well apart in their negotiations over a new deal.

Armstrong has kicked on under Rodgers and knows he is in a strong position with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

He can then leave for nothing and could earn three or four times what is being offered by the Scottish champions.

West Brom and Everton are among other clubs monitoring Armstrong’s situation.

Celtic are still hopeful of getting Patrick Roberts back on loan from Manchester City.

The English Premier League side are concerned that having already spent 18 months at the Hoops, Roberts would gain little from returning and would prefer him to go to Southampton.

The closer we get to the end of August, the less we're going to be offered for Armstrong. £3m seems risible but we're not going to be offered silly money for an SPFL player who's had about 6 good months in four years.

If Watford can pay something like £18m for Andre Gray who was in the last year of his contract and Arsenal are allegedly looking for tens of millions for Sanchez who is in the same position then I think that we should tell Southampton to do one if that is indeed the offer.

The Express isn't even a comic.

The article itself is written by Scott Burns, a guy who claimed that Rangers went bust owing the taxman no money (seriously), and Lindsay Herron, the last ever editor of the Rangers News.

I'm sure they've hunners of sources at Celtic Park and St Mary's.

The money that is splashing about down south in transfer fees is lamentable. £3m a few years ago for someone who could sign with a new club in 6 months for nothing would have been a great piece of business but in my opinion, for what its worth, it would need to be nearer £5-6m to make it worth our while.

Why do we think we're getting a big fee for him in the last year of his contract? If folk are are suggesting values of 7.5 and upwards, how much would we be expecting to get if he had 2 years left? 20m?
