Ah, so this is the current go to thread for the bonkersness?

He wasn't great by any means, but the reaction is hilarious. He's still under contract, he's playing, he can have an off game or two. It happens. He had a few high profile passes that went astray, but I watched the whole game again and he kept it ticking over in many spells while he was on too, on reflection.

If something happens with his contract over the coming days, watch this thread turn.

If he's not going to sign he shouldn't be playing. Play the players who want to be here.
He has a year left with us. To say he shouldn't play is laughable.

Leave or tell your agent to GTF son, because your head and your heart is just completely on standby mode at the moment.

Doesn't matter if he has a year left, his head has been turned and it is affecting his game so he either signs or drops to the bench, his replacement should be getting the game time.

If McGregor had gone off instead right after the goal, then Armstrong would have been much better in the last 20 minutes just like McGregor was. Yes, he was poor, but without a striker, it was difficult for him to make the correct pass, as there was barely any space until Griffiths came on.

Very poor. His passing was abysmal. 5-10 yard passes going astray. His passing in the 1st leg was also very bad.

His contract situation shouldn't dictate whether he plays, his performances do that. If he plays like last night and last week he shouldn't play.

I've kept my counsel all summer but he should be extremely grateful to have availed of Brendan Rodgers' expertise and knowledge last season. What a short memory if he's now looking to sail off into the sunset. I'd drop him and put him on the transfer list.
How many counsels do you keep? Same snapshot response to Brendan Rodgers following last week's disappointing 0-0 draw.
Armstrong to score a hattrick against Hearts followed by counsel withdrawn like in the BR thread

His game depends on his state of mind-was the same last seaon.

He needs to sort some shampoo out soon and get his head back in the game.

Otherwise he is like a man down and needs dropped

Funny how things turned after Mikey mentioned that Armstrong was planning to sit tight until January. Almost predictable ;)

We have midfielders we've spent decent money on sitting watching from the bench. I'd rather they get game time now if he's planning on leaving, good luck to him. I'd still rather we kept him. He was outstanding last year.

A good point l. Did any Celtic midfielder have a "good game" over the whole tie up to Griffiths' introduction last night?

Brown was every bit as wasteful last night with no contract issue hanging over him. That Brown pass to Lustig pass in the second half was a shocker in particular!

Not getting on Brown here, but let's have a balanced debate and not just home in on a guy just cos he's negotiating a new contract.

Armstrong was shampooe to put it bluntly. He lost the ball more times than he made a completed pass last night - sort the contract out and get his head back in the game

Brown and Simo were easily our best players last night btw

If he continues in this vein of form he won't have many suitors in January, meaning he'll sign Lawwell's new lowball offer 5 year deal.

SSM does it again.

He had little bursts last night but if that's the player he's going to be for the last year of his contract, it's time to get him up on the block or onto the bench

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
I thought Brown was good tonight, while Sinclair worked really hard.
He was also heavily involved in the winning goal.
Thought Brown got bullied at times tonight and looked a yard off the pace.

At least he didn't launch the ball out of play regularly like the first leg though.
He didnt need to. He had Gordon to do that for him.

And every suggestion I have heard (from someone close to Guy Armstrong, Stuart's dad) is that he has always been, and still is, more likely to sign a new contract with Celtic than do anything else. I had that confirmed to me again last week on the day of the Rosenborg home leg.

I'll admit that the length of time it is taking one way or another is a bit strange (his rep's holiday was given as a reason to me), but it is definitely colouring people's views unnecessarily.

If he signed a new contract tomorrow, and produced a shocker on Saturday, the reaction would be nothing like this. Players have bad games. It's not a indication of his "head being gone" or that we are entering Bad Year Armstrong again, after an excellent season of form.

He struggled in an early season game where a team well into their season played most of the two games with a low block, concentrating mainly on denying space, in games where we played without a recognised striker for 80% of the time.

He shouldn't be in the team just now because he's playing poorly. Probably because he doesn't want to be here.
