should be fired right into the development team from september onwards if he's refusing to budge.
That benefits no one, including us.

If he want sign a new contract we should be trying to sell him as soon as the CL qualifiers are done. If he won't move then we should keep playing him as and when Rodgers sees fit - we'd still be paying him and there's no reason to think that he wouldn't be professional when asked to play. Also, if our overall target is to get him to sign a new contract (either to keep him long term or so that he can't leave for free) then making him play and/or train with the reserves is hardly gonna help us.

Ridiculous to think that we might actually *lose* money on this player.

I really don't understand why the club has allowed this to rumble on. If they really are only willing to offer him a third of what he knows he can make elsewhere, they should have put him up for transfer in effing May.

As I said earlier in this thread, he'll be rightly requesting wages for what we value him at.

We can't have it both ways. He's a 30k player and we should pay it.

We've offered to double his wages but hed still be on less than 15k and he is not for accepting
Not sure if that is correct, he is already on approx. £8k a week so doubling it would be £16k.
Treble it to 25k and everyones happy
I get the sense that part of the problem is that he ( or his agent) won't actually say what he wants to stay. Just seems to be ' I want more than that'. Personally I think if he was to ask for £20k/£25k a deal could be done. But the club can't negotiate on the basis of 'more'!

Not in Scotland he isn't.

Brown isn't even on 30k per week and he's worth far more to the side than Armstrong.

The positive are that if he has a stinker from now until Xmas we'll have the upper hand in any new contract discussions. If he plays really well then he can justifiably ask to be compensated for maintaining that level and Celtic can approach it with a more rounded analysis of the player, his performances and his importance to the team.

The negative is that his sell on price might go down purely because there is less of a contract to buy out.

Don't think Samaras wanted to go either. They tied him to a horse and slapped its arse.

Also, if his form dips again and he finds himself out the team and McGregor is playing, can he ask for the same money?

Maybe suits both to sit tight for now. If he keeps his form up, maybe we'll offer him the higher wage. If he doesn't, he might well be begging us to sign for the lower.

It wouldn't take much trawling through old transfer threads to find plenty folk saying 'just pay the money' for the likes of the young Dutch guy that went to Blackburn (Ritgers). it creates all kinds of knock on effects for other players. Bringing in higher paid players over the last year has led to SA thinking he should get more. You have to be sure they're worth it.

Just checked out ritgers.... flopped Balckburn, 2 loans then Australia. Sure there were folk on here greetin that we missed out on him.

Brown signed a new contract in 2014. He'll have a yearly wage rise in his contract and is probably creeping over the 30k mark.

When Brown signed his contract he was at the upper limit. Dembele and Sinclair are on more than him now and paying Armstrong 30 grand a week and tying him down to a 4 year deal is an absolute no brainer.

He didn't want to go to in January he was hoping to see his contact out so he could he get a large signing on fee in the summer
That's what I heard at the time anyway
