Good luck to him. Hope he gets what he's looking for wherever that is.

If he is looking to move then he needs to be playing well so he should be up for doing a job for us.

However, I suspect he will be punted for £5-£6M by the end of August.

It's bold move to sit it out. We just bought 2 players that can play in his place. Even without meaning to be vindictive were better off giving them game time than to someone who doesn't want to be here.
If he's still here in September I think he'll be riding the bench at best. As mentioned, BR will likely give game time to players committed to the club.

A pity if he goes. Sometimes we win with the transfer system and other times we don't.

He's going to sit it out till January :brickwall:
That's fine by me, let's just get on with utilising him with regards the CL progress.
I reckon he will get sold before the window closes if that is the case. I doubt we will let him go for nowt.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was how it panned out.

At the same time he could well be doing the same thing that so many of our potential signings have supposedly done over the years, by waiting to see if we qualify for the CL before deciding to sign a new contract with us.

We'll really miss the Armstrong of the past 8 months. No point in denying that. His contribution last season was exceptional. Whether he is able to sustain that level of performance under a different manager, in a different team/league is the great unknown. Overall his Celtic career has been mixed but during the past season he went from mediocre to marvellous with Rodgers clearly able to get the best from him.

I thought another couple of years at Celtic would have been best for both parties. I guess neither think they can't thrive without the other. Armstrong won't get anywhere near a major club but then again look what that did to Liam Miller's career. If it's more than money he's interested in then I hope a move abroad is on his agenda. In terms of development that would seem preferable if less profitable than a move to a lower EPL side.

If Celtic think they can replace him for less than the terms of a new contract then it seems that our ability to attract affordable quality players is better than our current defensive and striker shortage suggests.

If we're only offering £15k a week then he's well within his right to leave for a better offer.
£15k pw is a hell of a wedge to most people on here but relatively for a footballer playing CL and International football it isn't great - and that's what counts.

I wish we could have got another season out of him. I was sure he would carry the form of last season to this and he would have given himself better options and us a decent fee.

He's using us

Let's use him - get thru the qualifiers by using him as BR sees fit and then make it clear he aint part of the future

He'll be gone by end August on terms acceptable to us or he's playing with the kids - let's see how that plays for his advisers

It's all speculation at this point. No point people getting on his back about this until we know for sure. He might end up staying.

If its true we have offered £15k per week to one of our best players, a midfielder who scored almost 20 goals last season, then that is quite depressing.
He's had one very good season and they're offering to double his wages.

He has generally planned to be for the off when he completed the degree. Luckily the new manager has raised his value.

If he's planning on hanging about he's taking a giant risk. A bad knee injury or ankle and he's sitting on nothing.
He's worth at least 20k a week

We've just let some big earners leave and we've got money to burn, now is the time to make sure our best players don't leave.

As usual the board are being stingy bastards

He`s been good but it`s one area of the pitch we are not short of quailty in and given Brendans signings so far this season, I`m not sure he was banking on him being here longer term anyhow. It`s down to how much we can get for him now, decent wedge now or pin money in January.

Ironically if he had went for half what we paid for him at the end of Ronnies term not many on here would have complained, Brendan has massively increased his value, which his agent I would imagine thinks should be reflected in his wage.

He`s a talented , intelligent boy, it will be interesting to see if he can replicate recent form elsewhere.

At least. More wouldnt be ridiculous considering his contribution was near as important as Brown, Sinclair and Dembele.

Unfortunate timing for us that he had such a good season in the 2nd last year of his contract. There was probably no great desire from the club to offer him an extension this time last year. This has meant the player has such a strong hand now.
