Not sure if that is correct, he is already on approx. £8k a week so doubling it would be £16k.

He'll be staying in the same homeless unit as Pierre Van Hooijdonk on that kind of wage.

Moving away slightly from the utterly ridiculous amount of money footballers get, if he sees people younger than him signing up and earning more than him I could see his point. It might be the case that someone like Ntcham is getting £10k more a week (total guess) but maybe that's based on potential.

Armstrong has had one good season for us out of two-and-a-half. While some of that can be mitigated by the previous management regime, it's still the case that he has to prove he's not a one-season wonder for us. Will he even hold a place down with Ntcham, Brown, Rogic and maybe Benyu vying for a couple or three slots? So doubling his money might be seen as a reasonable offer.

On the other hand, for the sake of maybe 5k per week (again, speculating) are we prepared to see someone who has emerged as one of our more reliable performers, who can pitch in with crucial goals in big games, walk away? It might be the case that because our young guys coming through, or those signing from unfashionable sides, start from a lower base that they are always going to be playing catch up with someone signed from elsewhere. Maybe Scott Brown is an exception as I think he was on big dosh from the word go.

Hopefully, whatever happens regarding him staying or going, lessons will be learned when it comes to renewing Tierney's deal for one thing. We've seen the likes of Charlie Nicholas, Shaun Maloney, Jackie McNamara, Davie Hay and probably a whole lot more, all leave when they didn't really want to, over what was probably washers in the great scheme of things.

This fact? If that's what he's planning we need to get rid now.

Depends what you mean by facts. He could change his mind tomorrow.

He is 100% being advised to sit it out till January though.

I remember the rumour when Ledley was running his contract down that the new deal was on the table until we received an acceptable bid and then he was told in no uncertain terms he had to go or he would be training with the kids til it ran out.

If he isn't signing a new deal then he needs to leave before September.

Can fully understand the player being ambitious and have no objections to that, but disappointing that he is going about things this way if the club are willing to let him go just now.

If he wants to sit it out then we don't have much choice in the matter.

He signed a contract and is entitled to let the contract run to its conclusion
