He is a player. Never gave the ball away yesterday and is always looking to progress the ball or link with a team mate. He still looks slower than last season and I don`t know how much that back injury has affected him and his movement this season.

Deserves the benefit of the doubt for poorer form this season as he`s a clever, more than useful player, always makes room to receive a pass also, even in tight spots. No doubts about his bravery, just his confidence earlier in the season but show me first team player who was playing confidently then.

I think he is an intelligent player, but not sure if he is best suited on the lhs. Quite impressed when he was played deeper and/or more centrally last season.

Yep, agree with this. He is a good passer of the ball and this would be better utilised in the middle.

Armstrong can play any position in the 5 well. It's wrong to put any blame on his poor form on which position he is picked in.

He's a smart player, nudges the game along and plays the kind of passes that springs things open. Can whip a good cross in too.

I have no idea where he has been all season but we really needed him in August and September, just like his compadre GMS.

He played well at the begining of the season.

He's a useful player when played in his proper position. When he spends half the game stuck out on the left wing then no he's not so good.

I put the blame for Armstrong's indifferent form squarely on Ronny Deila. Play him in the central attacking midfield role and his form will soon pick up. The problem we have is we have too many players in that same boat - Commons, Johansen, Armstrong, Allan.

I agree. I suspect that rather than not being suited to positions they had done well in before, both GMS and SA found it hard to maintain the enthusiasm they showed in the second half of last season into this season, especially given the type of form we were in and the criticism of the team in the press and at CP.

Edit: typo

He plays well coming in off he left. As folk should have worked out by now, it's not a left wing position, more of an inside left which allows him to cut and drive inside to good effect. It also occasionally allows him to move more central to dictate things.

He's looked stronger and fitter the past few games, so hopefully that will help him push on from here.

I suppose it depends how long you think 'the beginning of the season' is.

He played well until he got injured away to Qarabag and hasnt really been right since. He has got progressively better in the last 3 games, he was quite wasteful with his final ball at Tannadice, but played some nice stuff in and around the midfield. That continued on Tuesday, and he was better again at the weekend.

Hopefully he stays fit and kicks on again.

The last line of this post sums up Armstrong if he is strong and fit he is an asset to this team when he is not 100% he isn't.

Some players can give maximum effort when their bodies aren't 100% (Scott Brown) but a lot of players can't but can still be effective then other players like Armstrong/Forrest are passengers on a team and are unable to add anything when carrying a slight knock or a long term serious niggle.

Hope he stays in good shape and shows us the player he can be
