Brendan got it in one when he spoke of a 25-year-old player having 120 wage packets left in his career if he looked after himself. If SA is being offered £45k a week when he's on £10k rising to maybe £25k with us, he would be daft not to grab it. Those are the cold, hard facts. But we have to punt now rather than risk him doing a Maloney and spinning it out with bullshiit until he walks for nothing. I said two weeks ago I'd give him two weeks and then punt. It's time to punt. This is really starting to remind me of Maloney's antics. Hope I'm wrong because I wanted us to buy Armstrong and I'm glad we did. But Celtic's welfare comes a million miles in front of any individual's ambition.
He's not going to a CL team so best to keep him for qualifiers, surely?

CL play off second leg is 23-24 August. Window closes a week later. I imagine we'll do business in that time.
Was only a day the last couple of years I think? If there's a week between last qualifier and window closing that's when our business will be done, one way or the other.

I know we all want top players in for qualifiers but few are up to speed, most still on the beach. It's as big a risk throwing them in as not having them.

Beginning to see the Ntcham and Benyu signings more and more for what they now appear to be. Major replacement level players for certainly Armstrong, and maybe even Bitton.
doubt it very much. a player like ntcham has been brendans priority since he came in the door
That was before the emergence of Armstrong last season.

He worked his way into the team and was excellent but long term I'm sure BR would be happier with Ntcham and Rogic as his two in front of Brown.

Second leg of the qualifier definitely 22-23 August.

I ain't gonna lose sleep over him as I has written Armstrong off at the tail end of Delia's last season. The fact that he's come good just means well get a good price for him but yeah I would have liked him to stay. Ntcham, Eboue and McGregor will do for the moment but we can also add to that area of the pitch. Not that bothered as I would be if I was losing Moussa or Kieran.

Agree. Forster and VVD stuck around for the qualifiers even though we all knew they were 100% gone. Armstrong's situation is a lot less clear cut than that it would seem so he should too. He's a very important player.

Plus I'm dying to see him and Ntcham together in the middle

The biggest challenge for Armstrong right now is not whether he can go to England and make a fortune at a relegation fodder club but whether he can build on his form from last season at Celtic.

All this pish about 120 pay checks left. If he signs a new deal now and has another outstanding season at Celtic what'll he be able to get next season down south?

Guys like Armstrong rally need to consider these things before looking to "better" themselves, otherwise he'll just be another EPL Scot at Wedt Brom or Stoke and in four years time when he's not playi in Europe again or even sniffed a trophy he'll be back up the road to play for Aberdeen or Hearts.

EDIT: maybe it's cos I'm a Celtic fan but guys should be making sure they leave Celtic considered a great player not just giving two or three up and down seasons.

If we have the choice of selling him now and replacing him now; or keeping him for the qualifiers and selling him the day after, i'd go for the latter. Im now resigned to the fact hes away so its now about ensuring the club benefit from him as much as possible. For me, hes too important to lose before the qualifiers finish.

So he'd only 120 payments of 25 grand left if he were to stay with us? Poor Armstrong.

I get folk will leave for a variety of reasons but really don't understand the idea that we need to empathise with these already extremely wealthy footballers wanting to line their pockets, particularly in this case when Armstrong has been here for 2 & 1/2 years and has been pretty pish to average except for the last 4-6 months and the initial 1-2 months.

No-one "needs" to empathise, but it's fairly obvious that most people would leave their jobs if offered that % pay rise, particularly with the opportunity of further significant increases.

What's this 120 paypackets left bullshampoo? 120 months, meaning 10 years? Fair enough, but folk saying he's only got 120 more payments of 25k a week aren't making sense, that would only be another 2 and half years.

Am I misunderstanding something about this?

If true and he is leaving he should be nowhere near the squad for champions league qualification we need players who are 100% committed to Celtic and would imagine Brendan wants that to do if we get through and play say Rosenberg then I would expect him to be replaced in the starting 11 in such a vital game which guarantees European football till xmas.

He's a professional player. I think we'll let Rodgers decide if he's committed to playing while he's still here. The manager's job is to field the strongest Celtic side he can, right now Stuart Armstrong is one of the first players on that team sheet.

i agree to an extent but if he has made up his mind to leave then is he gonna be fully committed to a 50/50 or other instances during a match if there is a chance an injury would scupper his move ? ..he may be professional but being professional is also one of the main reasons why he is considering moving on..

He'll be paid monthly.

So 120 payments of 80k.

Poor Stuart.

So we aren't strengthening just replacing with cheaper wages? It would be a big blow to lose Stu. I hope the guys in now can be as good if not better but at this point, we don't know.

Armstrong cost about twenty quid. If we're replacing him with Ntcham, that's an upgrade.

I suppose my concern is that we know what Stu can do, he's been great and I'd rather we had competition in that area, not someone leaving. That was my point, probably not well made.
