He's got 2, maybe 3, big contracts left to sign.

He's got to maximise his earnings and strike while the iron is hot.

Can't blame him for playing it as he is. Maybe he wants to run down his contract and have even more earning potential.
Maybe we should make sure he doesn't.

Just seen the quotes from BR from a few days ago.

Surely Armstrong can get a hold of his agent? If he is that desperate to stay, then surely he could just call his agent and say, look I'm happy to accept the offer on the table, no more amendments etc.

Feels more like BR's stalling the press by saying things like this. He probably wants him here for the qualifiers, then he will be sold, if it’s not signed.

If we are going to be actively looking to get rid of him with a few days of the window left, we probably shouldn't expect too much, in terms of a transfer fee. Clubs will know our position and how much leverage we have or don't have for that matter.

He will probably move to West Ham/Southampton/West Brom for 3-5m

Haven't we already got his replacement in Ollie?

I'd love him to stay but if his heart isn't 100% in it both parties will regret not moving him on.
I think BR brought him in to play the Rogic role in Europe.

He would be a silly laddie to leave just now and end up at a mid table EPL club, another cracking season and good displays in Europe and he could more than likely get a wage nearer 70/80k per week at a top six EPL side or decent foreign team.

If his head is elsewhere and money is all that is important to him i don't want him at the club anyway and if we got around 5m for him it has paid for his replacement, like many before him he will regret it though :(

Disagree. He will have a better chance of getting a huge contract by signing for and performing well for a mid table club like Southampton.

Unfortunately, the world seems to revolve around the Premier League so that will be where he would get the most attention.

Or sign for somebody for free in January.

Spot on.

It's absolutely ridiculous that you can improve your chances of a move to a top team by playing for Southampton over Celtic. Unfortunately, that's just the way of it these days.

I'd hate to see him go but with Ntcham, Ebboue, Benyu, McGregor, Bitton, Rogic and Brown - we'd get by.
I'd have CalMac in that list before Bitton.
He's there? :ponder:

I'm tempted to go back a year and see what folk were saying in last summer's " who should Brendan punt" threads

I'll take short odds that the vast majority would have had Armstrong in the "punt" list

Probably the same ones who niw think he's nigh irreplaceable ;)

Celtic will survive if this young man decides his future lies elsewhere
Or go back to the Scott Brown thread round about the time he was entering the last 6/7 months of his last deal  It was full of "He's pish" "Holding club to ransom" "Get found out elsewhere" "Easily replaced"
FWIW I suspect we'll see a similar scenario here, and he'll sign an extension out of the blue, If the decision had already been made I doubt Brendan would be mentioning the negotiations in interviews

No but if he doesn't resign and wants to run down his contract we should stick him in the reserves or development squad. We should only use him if we really have to. A year out of the limelight would see his value diminish a fair bit!

Let's play hard ball when we have to

If a player still wants to leave after we've made our best offer, then fair enough he should go.

I don't think we can be a club who buys low, sells high then stick them in the reserves when the players dont do what we want contract wise.

I'd rather he stayed but if he wants to go let him go with our best wishes. He's been value for money, regardless of the sell on fee.

For every player we move on to the epl it makes us more attractive to young talent signing in the future.

Jim Spence used to ramble on about how he wanted to play abroad.

I've always had a lot of respect for players who have at least given that a try, whether or not it works out.

Disappointing to see it looks like it's down to money, but that's the way things are now.

If he's not staying, sell ASAP & put the funds towards a partner for Jozo & a replacement for Paddy.

The guy cant be criticised for wanting to leave or stay and see out his contract. He has every right to do that and that's what contracts are there for.

Clubs don't have no issue signing someone up to a long term contract and then 1 year later saying 'not in the plans, find another club'.

All Celtic can do is offer him the best deal possible which financially makes sense for Celtic and its then up to the player. If he does stay but doesn't sign it would make absolute no sense to try and out of spite not play him.

No but the club has to protect itself. We have several midfield players who have committed their future playing career to the club and one who hasn't. SA has every right to do what he thinks is best for himself and his family. CFC has every right to what they think is best for the club. Player X who will be here at the start of next season might well become a much better player if he gets game time in the coming season. If that be the case we should play X before SA !

Surely you pick the team from the best players available. If Armstrong is one of those he plays regardless of his contract situation.
