Dude on twitter saying w brom and Southampton offering 45k a week and he's 'only' on 10k at the mo

Amazing how much detail people get from thin air

I'm gonna stick my neck out and say he'll sign an extension - double his wages and an agreement if he has another awesome season he can go for 15 mill

Ye read it here first
Let's imagine that's true, and we were expected to match that kind of wage. Make him the best paid player even though he's well short of being the best player at the club? Let's say naw.

Wonder when the club will decide enough is enough and make him available for transfer?
I'd imagine they already have.

To me at least, Brendan's statement the other day smacked of him buying the player a bit of time and taking some pressure off him and allowing him to play and focus on the qualifiers.

Won't be surprised in the slightest if he leaves (been saying for a while that he will) but he has been in fine form recently and scored a lot of goals.

He's not as big a player as some others we've lost over the years but he will be missed if he goes.

I don't recall Van Dijk, Wanyama or Forster being subjected to the same "he's making a huge mistake" type posts when they left Celtic for Southampton. Is that because most people felt, unlike Armstrong, they were good enough to use Southampton as a stepping stone to something better? Or is it because we've progressed as a team over the past 12 months to the extent that folk now see us as a much better proposition than a couple of years ago?
The Van Dijk threads in particular were effing car crashes near the end of his time. 'Not as good as he thinks he is' ect.

Wanyama's passing would never get him to the top level, Forster actually got a fairly balanced send off, I'm sure. So there's that.

Everyone gets a downgrade in ability, or a bit of a kicking on here when rumours of a departure rear their head.

up on the roof!!

I'm tempted to go back a year and see what folk were saying in last summer's " who should Brendan punt" threads

I'll take short odds that the vast majority would have had Armstrong in the "punt" list

Probably the same ones who niw think he's nigh irreplaceable ;)

Celtic will survive if this young man decides his future lies elsewhere

I don't think Armstrong has addressed the weaker parts of his game enough yet to be cashing in his chips for the EPL.

He needs to look around his team just now to see the level of player thats chosen to join to get an education under BR and ask himself if hes ready for what happens if you frequently give away passes straight to the opposition in the middle of the park in the top league in the world, which he will do.

Haven't we already got his replacement in Ollie?

I'd love him to stay but if his heart isn't 100% in it both parties will regret not moving him on.

Had a really good season last year, scored a lot of goals and showed huge improvement in consistency.
If he goes then we wish him all the best and move on, hopefully for a good wedge, which is exactly what our strategy is.

Fortunately for Stuart, the EPL will pay big money regardless of whether he's worked on his weaknesses or not.

I'm always of the opinion that you should make it at Celtic before you move on. That for me, means at least TWO, FULL, SOLID seasons in the Hoops. Armstrong has been the player we expected we were getting for around 6-8 months.

I have sympathy for the player when he's potential tripling his wages elsewhere but his current offer from Celtic will still make him a very wealthy man, allow him to progress as a player in a nurturing atmosphere and play CL football.

Signing this deal now doesn't need to be a rejection of the EPL money machine in the future.

Be a big loss if Armstrong goes. The most complete midfielder we have. Can do everything. One season under Rodgers and he has went from bit part player to star man. You would like to think that he sees how much Rodgers has developed his game this past season would be enough for him to stay another and see where he can take him. 17 goals and 7 assists in all comps last season is going to be tough to replace if he goes and if you add that to Paddy Roberts 11 goals and 19 assists in all comps, we will be needing the new boys or current players to step up and hopefully replace the goals and assists!

I'll be gutted if he leaves to be honest. From November onwards he was a totally different player to what we've seen for about 15 years at the club and one that I think won't be as easy to replace as some people suggest. Fair play to him though, he has a chance to earn double what he's currently on so I can't hold it against him. Fingers crossed we get some decent money for him.

you cant blame him for being swayed by English millions he cant be on any more than £10k although I suspect he's on far less than that, we will offer him a good deal way more than his current, if he is greedy and wants more let him go, we have Ollie and Rogic who can play in midfield with brown plus Eboue, mcgregor and Henderson as back up thats before we even consider new signings,

midfield isn't really a concern for us, getting a new cb and rb Imo should be what we are all flapping about

If he goes he'll move into a squad of players with more weaknesses than the squad he's currently part of. Huge potential but he wont get a top 4/6 move to england.

If you were offered a new job, on double or triple your current wages, do you think anyone would call you greedy for taking it?

I'd hate to see him go but with Ntcham, Ebboue, Benyu, McGregor, Bitton, Rogic and Brown - we'd get by.

He's got 2, maybe 3, big contracts left to sign.

He's got to maximise his earnings and strike while the iron is hot.

Can't blame him for playing it as he is. Maybe he wants to run down his contract and have even more earning potential.
