Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
If BR can't replace him for half of the suggested fee then BR isn't the manager I think he is. Of all the players over the last 20 years that have left Celtic that could be considered "irreplaceable" or even "difficult" to replace Stuart wouldn't make the top 10 in that list IMHO
I think* the point is, we have rarely, if ever, had a central midfield player who scored the amount of goals that Armstrong did last season. Those aren't all that easy to come by.

* Going purely on the fact it has been repeated ad infinitum in here over the last week.
Commons scored 31 goals from attacking midfield in a season. Granted a bit further forward than Armstrong has for the majority of this year but lets be honest... if Rogic had stayed fit a lot of Armstrong's goals would have probably been shared with Tom.

EDIT - Just to say that I think we'll miss Armstrongs energy and link up play more than his goals. We have goals all over the team.

Yep, that's true. Commons was our main man that season without doubt. He was playing a fair bit further forward than Armstrong was though as you say.

Hard to say what would have happened if Rogic had been fit all season, he wasn't. Armstrong got in and stayed in the team on merit.

we may well be well covered in midfield but it would still be a blow to lose both Armstrong and Roberts in the one window..both major players for us in the last 6 months of the season...consolation being Rogers wont let him go on the cheap

I think everyone would agree with this.

The hope is that if he does go and we get £5-10m for him the money goes straight to replacing Paddy which would soften the blow - especially with Ntcham in.

The Armstrong from last season and the player from the previous 18 months were not the same. One we'll miss, one not so much. Which one he actually is, well that's what he would have proved this season. Everyone is replaceable just not like for like, that's all. We move on, we continue to develop and create our identity. We'll do that with Armstrong or without him.

We have Brendan. All is well.

Well, he's being offered money down there that we shouldn't match. He's had one (very) good season for us and we'd be getting a fee well above what we payed for him with a year left on his deal.

Not the worst situation, really. Between Ntcham, McGregor, Rogic, Kouassi and Benyu we should be well set in that area anyway

We don't have jump to conclusions on here. A solitary post last week and some guy on twitter today and everyone is bidding him farewell.

If he goes, he goes, but FFS let's have something concrete to get worked up over.
A fud on here making up pish about the Nitcham deal being off due to Juve intervention ended up on Twitter and people buying into it when in reality he had already signed the contract and it was all about the timing of the announcement.

Kds does seem to have a more than normal share of attention seeking zoomers during this close season.

We can only wait and see what pans out with Armstrong - On the form of the last six months he will not be easily replaced but equally he is not irreplaceable and I still think with Celtic under Rodgers he can kick on and improve to the next level which would benefit him, in turn us on the park and also in that his transfer value will increase once again - I am not so sure he will improve his game any further if he moves to some lower EPL team at this point in time.
Spot on.

What I'd add is that we managed fine when he was pish. We'll manage fine IF ge goes.

Ach, it's a shame, thought he could have turned into a genuinely cracking player with us. We'll survive but it's a bit of a blow nonetheless.

So - if this is true - Armstrong is clearly not as bright as we thought he was.

If it's purely about money, then an intelligent player would work out that,
under another year with Brendan, he could possibly move to a really top club and
earn far more than a move this season.
So surprised that a footballer doesn't want to lift trophies or play in European games.
Maybe he should have a conversation with Bertie Auld and ask him what he remembers about his pay-days!

I'll be disappointed if he goes but it's not a disaster. And like others have said , we have enough in midfield and we'd like the money to go into the Roberts fund please.

While I'd like both, if that's the choice I'll take Roberts.

Someone's had a text. Someone's spoken to a guy, who works in a different sport altogether, in a pub.

At the end of this, no matter the outcome, someone's getting their carrot kicked in.
Yer arse, ya fanny, you're kickin' no carrots carrot in

Wonder when the club will decide enough is enough and make him available for transfer?
