hes a good player who improved a fair bit last season but wont get knickers in a twist should he leave, infact id say if we got a £5m+ offer for him we should be willing to let him go

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
We can't force him to sign.
People moan about us selling our best players every summer but Forster, Wanyama and Van Dijk all wanted to leave. Even that carrot Johansen couldn't wait to bugger off to England. We can't compete with the wages on offer
Having been around when the likes of Bobby Collins, Kenny Daglish and Charlie Nicholas all moved on, I think Celtic will survive Armstrong leaving if that's what he wants after 6 good months.

I know that as a club we cannot compete with the stupid money of elsewhere but I would hope we have not regressed to the extent that a player of Armstrongs ilk can dictate to us. He's had 6 good months with us and if he doesn't want to be here then he can do one. He will be replaced easily enough. If he wants to be in relegation battles or mid table obscurity where he is not even certain to be a starter then so be it. He'll never get anywhere near a club our size again and if all he cares about is money then he's not the kind of person we want around the club tbh.

Whatever we get for him should go straight into the Paddy Roberts fund.

Big time

Losing him and Paddy in the one window isn't ideal
Hopefully the sale of VVD happens soon too

I've got enough confidence in both Ntcham and Kouassi for next season that I don't think we would need to sign another CM if Armstrong goes. When you add in McGregor and Benyu we have a lot of players who can play in the middle.

If Roberts doesn't want to come then we need to use it to get a winger who's going to be as good as Roberts was. As you say - losing 2 of our most talented players is not good.

If BR can't replace him for half of the suggested fee then BR isn't the manager I think he is. Of all the players over the last 20 years that have left Celtic that could be considered "irreplaceable" or even "difficult" to replace Stuart wouldn't make the top 10 in that list IMHO

I think* the point is, we have rarely, if ever, had a central midfield player who scored the amount of goals that Armstrong did last season. Those aren't all that easy to come by.

* Going purely on the fact it has been repeated ad infinitum in here over the last week.

Big loss if true, I've had a feeling his head has been turned for a while. Pity, can't see him having much impact down south. He certainly won't be given 18 months to find his feet like he needed here.

Does anyone else think this could be an opportunity for Callum McGregor?

He's not at Armstrong's level yet but I like the way he gets forward and finds space. Will certainly be tough to lose Armstrong if he does leave, but I think the increased game time for McGregor, and hopefully his continued progress, could soften the blow

Bottom line is I don't think any of us seeing a player playing hard-ball for wages. Stuart has played well in a good team under an excellent manger. I don't see his development continuing if he has to fight for a position in a more "moneyed" club. Just my view.

I'd agree with this. Armstrong has undoubtedly flourished under Rodgers and had a great season - it would be a shame to lose him. However, his overall record at Celtic hasn't really been anything to write home about. If he feels his future lies elsewhere and he can make more money in the EPL, so be it. He'll go with my best wishes but for all the money he might make, he's not really of the Man Utd, Barcelona, Real Madrid class and he's not likely to be part of something like Celtic again.

We'll manage, whatever he decides. And he'll miss us more than we'll miss him.

We don't have jump to conclusions on here. A solitary post last week and some guy on twitter today and everyone is bidding him farewell.

If he goes, he goes, but FFS let's have something concrete to get worked up over.
A fud on here making up pish about the Nitcham deal being off due to Juve intervention ended up on Twitter and people buying into it when in reality he had already signed the contract and it was all about the timing of the announcement.

Kds does seem to have a more than normal share of attention seeking zoomers during this close season.

We can only wait and see what pans out with Armstrong - On the form of the last six months he will not be easily replaced but equally he is not irreplaceable and I still think with Celtic under Rodgers he can kick on and improve to the next level which would benefit him, in turn us on the park and also in that his transfer value will increase once again - I am not so sure he will improve his game any further if he moves to some lower EPL team at this point in time.
