I don't recall Van Dijk, Wanyama or Forster being subjected to the same "he's making a huge mistake" type posts when they left Celtic for Southampton. Is that because most people felt, unlike Armstrong, they were good enough to use Southampton as a stepping stone to something better? Or is it because we've progressed as a team over the past 12 months to the extent that folk now see us as a much better proposition than a couple of years ago?
A bit of both, IMO. Van Dijk and Wanyama looked destined to play at an elite level but Armstrong was struggling to get into our team until last autumn. I think Southampton would be him at his peak rather than a stepping stone to something else.

Guy in malones on Friday who manages golfers said he was friends with Armstrong's agent and was 100% convinced he was staying. Said he'd even phone the agent to confirm.

I think the difference is that those 3 players were coming to Celtic to get experience and build their reputation with the absolute idea that it was a stepping stone to the English premiership.

That isn't the case with Stu so the expectation is different.

If he goes, as far as I'm concerned he goes with thanks, especially for the cup final goal.

Time will tell. Think he is staying.

This whole situation seems to have come about rather out of the blue.

That said, Chris Houghton has a track record of using the Scottish market. Although surely to feck Armstrong wouldn't be tempted by Brighton? Their wage structure isn't up to much either. Even with EPL money, their wage limit will be around £40k per week.

Woah, woah, woah. Three days ago Rodgers said that he thinks Armstrong wants to stay and that he's waiting to hear from his agent.

Let's all wait and see.
Guy on the internet got a text but.

We don't have jump to conclusions on here. A solitary post last week and some guy on twitter today and everyone is bidding him farewell.

If he goes, he goes, but FFS let's have something concrete to get worked up over.

If he wants to go good luck to him, we get a good fee and he takes his chances with his career. BR replaces him with a player of at least similar pedigree.

I would like him to stay however he is not the superstar some would have us believe. He is around 25 with a handful of caps for a pish national team.

Either way it needs to be sorted sooner than later, we don't need the media getting any opportunity to spin this as a negative.

If he goes we bought him circa £2m and will get substantially more.

He will never ever get Champs Lge  football at Southampton/WBA so all the best Stu
CL is overrated
:cuckoo:

Any player worth his salt wants to play in it, arguably the biggest competition in the whole of football (unfortunately as I'm one of the few that still loves the World Cup)
It's still a no brainier to move for double your wages rather than a few games in CL . They only have a 10-15 year career. So I'll raise your cuckoo with :cuckoo: :cuckoo:

Losing Roberts and Armstrong in the same summer is a boot in the baws.
So much for improving the squad.

You don't build from strength buy losing two of your key players.

No matter who you bring in there is no guarantee they are going to hit it off.

Edit obviously if this happens of course.

Always felt hooper was making a mistake leaving and celtic turned out to be the peak of his career. Think he thought he had a chance at an england cap moving back south.

Someone's had a text. Someone's spoken to a guy, who works in a different sport altogether, in a pub.

At the end of this, no matter the outcome, someone's getting their carrot kicked in.

People moan about us selling our best players every summer but Forster, Wanyama and Van Dijk all wanted to leave. Even that carrot Johansen couldn't wait to bugger off to England. We can't compete with the wages on offer

If he is for the off sell asap. Once you decide to go your brain is elsewhere. We have enough in that department anyway I think.
