Would be very disappointed to see him leave but if he isn't going to sign a new contract then shifting him now is the smart move

Do hope he does eventually sign
Pretty much as I see it. I would prefer him to stay because not only was he an excellent player for us last season he clearly improved as the season progressed - and imo there is more improvement there yet.

I don't understand any bitterness though if he does move. Wanyama and vvd moved on after two years and there was no bitterness there - I also wonder how many of those condemning Stuart Armstrong for possibly moving now would have been happy to see him 'gtf' last summer?

I do think it is a big risk for Armstrong if he does move now though. We seen how badly he played under deila when things weren't going right so imo he would be better staying where things are working for a while yet.

Anything over £6M is good business for a guy who has had 1 partly good season.

Would want him to stay but there will be plenty of other options out there. Easily replaced.

A lot of 'easily replaced' comments.

Who would we replace him with? I can't think of any players with his technique, atheleticism and with that many goals in them that we could easily snap up in the next month.

I think it's more likely we'd be looking for a young guy who only has the potential to get to that level. Unless he's planning on Ntcham playing there or McGregor stepping it up another gear.

Maybe he's not planning on staying a footballer for the next 10 years and wants to practise law? If that's the case earning as much as he can from his next contract and then quitting you can understand why he'd fancy a move just now. Especially given signing on fees and the huge bump in salary he'd get by moving to an EPL club.

From a footballing point of view I think it's a risky move and he'd be far, far better staying for another season having signed a 2 year extension. He performs as well for a full season his stock is only going to rise especially if he can perform well in Europe.

However given how long this has been dragging out you can only assume he's for the off.

Exactly, Gary Mackay Steven is easily replaced. Bitton, Cifcti Sviatchenko et al are all easily replaced.

Armstrong - if he goes - not so.

Is he an automatic starter even if we do not further improve the squad?

I definitely hope he stays, but he doesnt replace Brown, lot of cash spent on Ntcham, and a fit Rogic gives us creative spark

Plenty other teams in Europe seem to be thriving without him. It's a mystery!

If we get 6-8m for him and spend it on a replacement, I'll be confident we can actually improve as a team. Unfortunate timing that his good spell coincided with his contract having a year to go. Them's the breaks. Between Olivier, McGregor and Rogic we should have the No 10 role covered for now.

Hopefully they'll announce a done deal before the Linfield game. He keeps popping up on Celtic TV clips and Brendan doesn't seem concerned, so hope the big handsome lump signs today!

Looks possible. Need a deeper MF if so. Eboue unproven and nobody else except an unreliable (fitness) Broonie really cutting it there.

Considering he's had one good season for us he's taking a risk
Agreed. Think it's a bit strange for someone who was ineffective up until about 8 months ago to take a 'big' move at this point. But then, money talks.
The killer is if I was in a job that only had a 15 year maximum length (assuming didnt get injured which is much more likely than in average job), I'd go for a trebling of my wages as well. Don't know anyone who wouldn't. Cant really blame him.

We've been looking at adding Ntcham since January so no, we didn't.

We are partially doomed? Worst case scenario is we get a few million for a player that was only a regular starter for a few months. I hope and think he'll stay. I want him to. But he wont be a gaping wound in pur squad the way someone like Larsson was.
