Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
It would be, but assuming they pay a decent wedge, we'll not only survive, but possibly prosper. He could do very well down there, could be good for both. If we get (for talking's sake) 8m from Soton, we should be able to replace with better and have some change left over. If our recruitment guys are switched on obviously. This is now our model, we need to get used to it. Disappointing when VVD left, Forster, Wanyama. As long as we recruit well we improve.
The difference is we all expected Armstrong's big move to be to us and for him to develop for us.

It's a kick in the teeth but we'll make a substantial profit and if it turns out a few thousand quid was the difference then it's poor from us.
We say that every time though. There will always be 'a few thousand quid' of a difference. Otherwise agents could negotiate another few thousand, then another few thousand.

He might fancy the EPL right now even if we matched the money. Especially at Soton which seem to be a very well run club. We might even have got his replacemnet in yesterday? :ponder:

Probably not anything that hasn't been mentioned already, but he's definitely going to Southampton.
Is this new info or the reports from a few weeks back?

I have always felt he was away - he's won everything he can win at Celtic and if an EPL side is offering several million to us and probably about 45-50k a week to him then it's inevitable.

Who knows maybe he will sign but I don't see it.

Hope he stays, I'd be disappointed to see him go.

Having said that, if he's not happy with what's on offer, fair enough. He deserves to be paid well relative to others in the squad. I'd pay him as long as it's not silly money....which it may be if his head's been turned by the EPL.

I know there very little loyalty in football these days but if true that leaves a bit of a sour taste. I suppose a good fee will help but to only get one good season out of him is disappointing.

It's a disappointing move. We're losing one of our best players.

If he goes we're a weaker team from that moment than what we were last season. Roberts and Armstrong are massive losses to the way we play, goals and assists. I know Hayes isn't as good as the former , Ntcham is a complete unknown.

But still, money eh?

I can't say I'm surprised.

That he didn't want to sign on for longer than 3 seasons when he joined us said everything about how he saw his career panning out.

Hoping for a Petrov situation here. Signs new contract, on the understanding that we won't stand in his way in a year or two.

We get a player who's on top form and he gets a platform to earn himself a move to a better team than Southampton.

I don't think there's a better Manager out there for Armstrong than Rodgers and I think he's knows that.

I don't really want him to sign now. Good player most of the time, but he's been decent for a year, and first sniff he's coming the carrot. Doesn't sit right.

Should probably qualify earlier moaning in saying that if we get 6-8m for him we've at least salvaged the situation. As long as it doesn't sit in the effing bank.

He's come on leaps and bounds. And with the modern footballer its £ rather than loyalty :boik: we really are needing to get first team players in Central Defender, Midfield and up top...loads of time, wish everton would hurry the eff up and sign VVD.

Agreed. Think it's a bit strange for someone who was ineffective up until about 8 months ago to take a 'big' move at this point. But then, money talks.

Agreed, disappointing if he goes. The money thing is hopefully sorted though as I'd hope BR gets every penny (plus more from last season's STs and CL income etc).

It's not the same as selling and not replacing as we've done in the recent past. Also, bringing in players on bigger money like Moussa and Sinclair can al;ways mean others in first team want parity, it's always going to happen. When another team offers them that parity it is hard to resist or blame them.

If we spend the Armstrong money on Paddy though I'll be over the effin' moon. :rocker:

I think he will go. The club are not budging and he has every right to look elsewhere.

It will be a shame to lose him but if the club feel they have made a good enough offer I don't blame them for not going higher.

Thank eff or we would never have got him, VVD, Wanyama etc in the first place to be able to sell them. It's a two way street, we have to play the cards we're dealt as best we can.

Armstrong and Roberts are goals and assists we will miss badly, i am hoping Armstrong stays but if he was staying you would have expected this to be done and dusted by now so im guessing he is here to get through the qualifiers then he is off for a decent amount, i am sure Brendan will have a replacement lined up if he is going.

Personally he won't be going to a better club so he is putting money first and why not, lets be honest if we all had offers to triple our wages the majority would go for it without hesitation no matter how much our boss and co workers didn't want us to go.

The sooner the epl cash bubble bursts the better because i am getting sick of losing good players to very average teams just because they can pay more.

My info from a good source was that it was more likely that he would stay, and it was down to length of contract.

The longer that goes though it seems likely that he may leave. I mean how long does it take to agree a new contract when you've been talking about it since March or April?

I doubt we'll have any issues with Linfield, but it doesn't sit right that we've not got this fixed by the time the qualifiers are here.

On balance, given our form last season I'd rather he played in the qualifiers than not, because we could do with the energy, goal threat and ability to keep the ball. He undoubtedly came on to a game by being able to do all three of those things last season.

Last year, he wasn't very good in Astana, and didn't play in Be'er Sheva, but his improvement within a much improved team is one of the reasons we were considerably better in April and May, than we were in the previous August. We need that over the next five weeks or so.
