Apparently he doesn't even have an agent so that story could be pish from the get go

Supposedly his father looks after all his business dealings
He's represented by pfa Scotland with his dad sticking his tuppence worth in

Armstrong is either gonna be sold, and happily so, or he's gonna have to grow a set and tell them to get a deal done

He's not worth being one of our highest paid players just because his dad thinks he is

If it's money he wants he's better off going
There's a lawyer on the scene as well is there not?

He's not married, so I doubt he'll be basing such a big decision on what 'his bird' says.

I think he will be better than Brown. He has better technique but still has the work rate and engine on him that someone like a Rogic does not. He's a very complete midfielder and may well replace Brown as captain if he sticks around.
Armstrong and Brown actually have similar career paths towards and whilst at Celtic. Both signed for us when they were 22 after impressing at Scottish clubs. Armstrong had a half season to bed in compared to the full season that Brown had.

In Brown's second season he was Players POTY compared to the poor 2nd season Armstrong. In Brown's third season he was made captain while in Armstrong's third season he played exceptionally well.

I always like to see Scottish players of a good standard retained at the club as they have an understanding of the club and country. I think this is important not only for that player but in integrating new players into the squad. I've often argued that it's not just his on-field abilities that make Brown a great captain but the way he applies himself in training and off the field that are equally important. Armstrong has a similar approach off the field and isn't your typical footballer out on the town.

I'd agree that there is the chance for Armstrong to eventually captain the club. However Brown has another 3 years in him by which time Armstrong would be 28. I'd also argue that Tierney may be the natural successor. My worry has always been that when Brown steps down we need other leaders to move forward. For that reason I'd like to see a dynasty built that includes both Tierney and Armstrong. These are players who would have worked with Brown and Brendan and know what it means to be successful. That's vital.

For what it's worth I think we may lose Armstrong. I don't think we will notice a major difference in the team in the short term. But long term (for reasons above) I'd rather retain him. Ultimately Brendan Rodgers will know of Armstrong's leadership qualities off the park best of all and he'll decide how much of a premium he needs to pay to retain that.

Tt was a surprise to a few that Mackay-Steven was still here and went on pre-season tour. Now Mackay-Steven and Armstrong are very tight - after the 5-1 Rangers game both players removed themselves a good distance away from Glasgow to celebrate in relative anonymity. I wouldn't be surprised if Brendan was using every trick in the book to sign up Armstrong. :twitch:

Starting to get pretty nervous about this. He's nowhere near as easily replaceable as a few posters on here have suggested. His ability and work rate is good, his potential is great, but on top of that it's his goals tally from the middle of the park.

Yes, and he won't ever get near as big a club as ours but he will be able to earn a lot more money. He isn't a Celtic fan or, seemingly, a player, unlike Scott Brown, who is happy just to be a big fish in a small pond. He is looking out for himself and will do well out of whatever happens. That is the nature of the game.

Players leave it's no big deal.

His problem if he goes.
He will lose his hair by the time he is 30 .
How do I contact him to save that hair for a cushion?

Has he signed ? No ! Punt !!!

The World won't spin off its axis, if history is anything to go by, other players will come in we'll forget about him, he'll regret leaving us. This isn't true in an infinitely small amount of previous scenarios.

I'd say that's a bit of a petty comment to be honest. We've had no communication from anyone regarding what's actually happening but everyone is getting itchy feet and forgetting he contributed as much as a CM has in years for Celtic. I'd rather these things weren't rushed through and i'm still confident that he'll end up staying on. If not, I hope we get more than he's worth and wish him well.

I'd much rather he stay though.

The stumbling block with the contract is the length, SA wants 2 yrs max, Celtic want 4yrs.
I'd heard he was happy to sign a new 3 year deal, Celtic were holding out for 4.

This was a few weeks back now though, so obviously any amount of things could have changed.
Get him on a 3 year and look to extend after 12 months. Even a 2 year contract gives us plenty time to get a replacement in. It'd be silly to let him go right now, he's a key part of our midfield no matter how BR sets the team up. When BR was talking about his preference of a midfield 3 with 2 runners and one sitting, Armstrong and Ntcham look ideally suited to being the 2 runners.

Same story was taken down by The Sun. GMS can't go on loan to Aberdeen because Christie is there.

Not sure what it has to do with Stuart Armstrong, right enough.

Also, is he not named in our UEFA squad for the preliminaries, despite there being a few dispensibles in there.

I've been complimentary of Brown all year, admitted I was wrong about him and said he should have been POTY. But don't let that get in the way of a snide post.
