van Dijk & Wanyama went for broadly similar fees but had 2 years left on their contracts. He's nowhere near the player that either of them are and is available for free on a pre-contract in 6 months time. I'd be amazed if anyone offered 10 million quid for him. |

I think the best comparison is to Johansen. He had a year left and went for £2million. Armstrong is roughly the same age as he was when he left and plays a similar role. I'd argue that Armstrong is a far better player but Johansen has a better pedigree (ex-POTY and more established at international level). If a bid were to come in for Armstrong it would be closer in value to Johansen than Wanyama or VVD imo. |

Different times. Wanyama was sold four years ago, before the new TV deal. A £12 million player at that point would go for double that today. If EPL clubs don't think Armstrong is worth £10 million, they won't be interested in him. Southampton sold a guy who can't get near their team to West Brom for £15 million today. |

As a fan I'm not really interested in transfer fees. Armstrong is a good player who is exciting to watch. He is making progress and growing into the best midfielder in the country. His relationship with BR is brillaint too. I'd rather he stayed here and continued to develop. It was a pleasure watching him last year. Hope the contract is sorted soon and I think it will be. |

i'd rather see a Celtic team with Armstrong in it rather than him supposedly on Southampton's wish list.. hope he signs the new contract sooner rather than later |

Brendan Rodgers was on record saying he wanted to keep Johansen but understood that he would have to be sold if he didn't agree a new contract. |

I want him to stay but the fee if he goes is important in terms of replacing him. Nothing wrong with him doing what he perceives to be best for his career (whether that's staying or going). We need to do what's best for us at the same time, so using him for qualifiers even if planning to sell (like VVD) may turn out the best solution. He's as good as many EPL midfielders, considering the likes of McArthur has done OK down there. He's not going to be on Pep's wishlist but he'd get a decent offer from someone if he was touted around I reckon. |

I agree but if you look at the way he influenced some of our games last year I think we wouldn't find it as easy to replace him as others are suggesting. |

He was fairly anonymous until around November. I reckon Rodgers could replace him fairly easily. |

Thought the level of his performances started to increase after his sub goal against the huns. Was still inconsistent for a short period then after the midweek game in Dingwall he never looked back. Genuinely thought he was unplayable at times afterwards though, the 4-3 game at Fir Park is a good example. Transformed from a player who was struggling to cope with the expectations of Celtic to a complete midfielder who scores goals, creates goals, presses well, is fairly strong in the tackle and was on a couple of occasions given the armband by Brendan. I don't think he'd be easily replaced. Edited by Haitch, 2 Jul 2017, 07:18 PM.

I'd rather he stayed but he's not McStay or Larsson. McGegor had similar pattern, as did a few others. Good manager in a team that's playing well helped them all. If he goes, I'd expect better as a replacement tbh. |

Did I read the figure of £10m for Armstrong. If offered that we should grab it. |

Also prefer him to stay, and I think there is more development and consistency to come under Brendan. |

There's truth in this, but Johansen wasn't sold after the season he was POTY; he was a bit of an irritating dick for much of the season prior to being sold. Armstrong is coming off the back of a season that got better as it went along. edit: though it's also true that any idea Armstrong had a brilliant 'season' is ignoring the first chunk of it. He done well last season and still has potential to further improve, his first touch in open play can be terrible at times, he gets away with it in domestic games but will not against a higher level of player. |

Armstrong took a long time to decide to sign for us and now he's taking a long time to decide if he wants to stay. He's clearly looking for more than we're prepared to offer in cash terms, or less than we want in contract length. If he hasn't signed by the end of the month, we should make him available for offer. £10m sounds about right for him from the cash-bloated EPL and I agree with those who think could replace him for much less than that. |

Taking the upward curve in his performances (and the fact that it seems to be something which is sustainable from what i've read on celticbynumbers's pieces) i'd be tempted to say that £10m would be selling ourselves short further down the line. If he kicks on and plays well in the CL (something which should suit his style of play) i'd be surprised if that price doesn't push up next summer. You have to hope that Celtic have looked at the last few transfers to the EPL (and Southampton in particular) and figured out that they can now charge more due to the higher success rate than perhaps was expected down south. I'm also not sure quite how easy it'd be to replace what he was doing for the team (particularly the Nov-Mar period) but I'm sure Rodgers and his team have got some targets already scouted and priced just incase. Personally I hope he signs on for another 4 years and he leaves for double these price tags in a few years to Dortmund or the like.

We should and would take £10m for Armstrong in a heartbeat. Can't see it anyway.
