Sign him and damn his impudence

Got another good season at least to deliver before he gets ideas about moving on :arrr:
This Choccys Hair, I'd love to be a part of this Celtic team and I really hope Stuart makes the right decision. Apart from his girly goal celebrations this year he has been constantly improving :)

If Armstrong was to go to a team that spent more time defending than attacking, would he still stand out as much? I don't think he's anywhere near ready to go to the type of team in England that would suit his style of play.

Southampton are interested in signing Stuart Armstrong from Celtic in the summer transfer window, according to The Sun on Sunday (print edition, page 63, July 2, 2017).

According to the report, the Saints would have to pay about £10 million in order to secure the services of the 25-year-old midfielder.

It has also been reported that Celtic will not sell the Scotland international until the Champions League qualifiers are over.

Armstrong was one of Celtic’s best players last season, and the 25-year-old would be a good signing for Southampton.

The former Dundee United star has proved himself in the Scottish Premiership, and it is only logical to expect him to move to the Premier League at some stage of his career.

Southampton have done business with Celtic before. The Saints signed defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama - now at Tottenham Hotspur - in 2013 and defender Virgil van Dijk in 2015 from the Glasgow giants.

The Saints will be aiming to finish in the top 10 of the Premier League next season, while Celtic will be favourites to clinch the Scottish Premiership title.

Aye, but they're quoting a rag (I know, I know) are they not?

Wouldn't be surprised if the likes of Southampton are in for the player.
It would also explain his reticence, re the new deal.
Everton's another lot who spring to mind ( a wee swap deal for McCarthy would be grand) if we've to lose him at all.

With Southampton's track record with us, I wouldn't be surprised if they were;
a) in for the player
b) circa that price

One thing is for sure, Armstrong is now a first pick player for BR, and if he goes he's gonna need replaced.

Replacing him won't be easy & fingers crossed he stays.

If we're offering him 20 grand a week & he can get 40 elsewhere, that's just the way it is now.

I'm just guessing figures, but we have to hope he isn't chasing the money.

It's extremely tempting, I know :twitch:

If we could bank 10, and maybe even outlay a little more, and end up with McCarthy as his replacement, it could be quite an agreeable deal...

If he's not going to resign then he should be punted ASAP!
He's a player who has kicked on but if some EPL mob offer him £50-60 per week we couldn't stand in his way.
Only thing we can ask is that he plays it straight with us and let's us know what he wants. If he tries to mess about then bin him to the reserves!
£10M should be the least we should expect to get for him if he goes to England!

I can't imagine us getting that for him with 12 months left on his deal. Again, my opinion, I just don't get that this is down to terms of contract.

He might well re-sign with us but IMHO that will only be because he didn't get a move rather than his desire to play here. I get it, he's an ambitious guy, like a lot of footballers are but we need to look after ourselves here. BR is probably one of the most pragmatic managers around and will have his eye on CL group stages qualification. From that standpoint we are right to hold our ground but ultimately we need those jerseys filled by guys that are desperate to be here and get game time here.

For me it's a case of drawing the line at some point. By all accounts we have been negotiating for quite a period of time (again another reason why I'm certain this isn't about terms). We know what he wants, he knows where we are in ballpark money and years. We put our best offer on the table, he either accepts or it's tattie bogle.

In terms of potential transfer fee, EPL clubs don't really bother about how long someone has left on their contract. Alexis Sanchez is out of contract in a year's time but Man City would gladly give Arsenal £50 million tomorrow to have him in their team this season. If Southampton, or anyone else, think Armstrong could be a great signing for them they'd happily fork out £10 million to get him for this season and ensure no one else can get there first.
