He may not have as many decent options as he thinks.
FWIW my inclination is that he was hoping that England game would tip a few interested parties in his direction. That he wasn't only bad but in fact rid rotten has had them hold their fire.
If he had two seasons in a row with the kind of form he demonstrated last season there'd be at least half a dozen with the money on the table. That he has one solitary season as an important player for us will most likely be giving scouts the heebie jeebies.

Remember the old SPL bias runs deep down there. Players here need to really prove themselves over time if they are to get their big move. My guess is most teams have passed on him in favour of taking another look next Summer where they could still snap him up for a moderate sum by their standards.

That leaves him in a dodgy spot. Re-sign with us, where we hold all the cards about when he moves and/or for how much OR don't sign, take a move to a wannabe team down there (Norwich, Ipswich, Villa etc) and hope he doesn't disappear in a sea of mediocrity to only resurface at Hearts in three seasons. For a smart lad, he is being a bit of an over-analytical twat about this.

You've over analysed that and blamed it on Armstrong.

Armstrongs agent won't get the deal he wants and neither will Celtic, it will be somewhere in the middle. Rodgers has said it a few times now, it's just discussions and he's confident the agent and the club will come to an agreement.
You can say it's "just discussions", but there's obviously a significant issue here given how it has progressed (or not).

We can downplay the discussions or overanalyse them, but the result of them will be that he stays or goes. And right now there's not an agreement to stay.

No-one is panicking, no-one is dying for him to go; but in the club's interest, if there's not an agreement soon then every effort should be made to sell him.

Indeed, and his comment about the talks carrying on over the season are the source of the current discussion.

If I was a betting man I would bet Stuartybhoy wants a 2 year deal and Celtic want longer. I think he will want to stay for another 1-2 years and then go abroad. He'll realise being at Celtic a wee while longer to develop is in his best interests. But I have a hunch he does see himself elsewhere sooner than Celtic would like.

I get the impression that he values himself quite highly.
I think Brendan does too.
Hoping they can meet somewhere that lawell thinks is reasonable.
I think he'll sign on again - would be daft not to & he's certainly not that.

Does he not have 2 years left anyway? :ponder:

So we're just haggling over the value of the buy-out clause ?

Initially signed on a 3.5 year contract so only 12 months left. :(

I'll just reiterate what I was told at the PFA awards night. He's keeping his options open as he wants to play in England although the caveat is that it needs to be a top 6 club.

We are in a tough position here due the length of contract he has left, really hope he stays but I have a feeling he will be sold after we bring in our marquee midfielder!

If hes only after a top 6 club then it's safe to say he's signing an extension.

Agreed. There is no way he will get anywhere near a top 6 EPL club at this stage in his career. The economics darn sarf are mental. Bournemouth paying £20M for a guy that can't get anywhere near the Chelsea first 11. Sign up now, Stuart - you know it makes sense.

He's had one good season so if he's not committed to us then bye. No chance of a top 6 move.

That's why I called it a guess. I don't know exactly what s going on with this deal but if you think it's down to "terms", good for you. I don't.

He always comes across in interviews as very shy and a wee bit nervous. I can't see him expecting a move to a top 6 club in the near future. Confidence was an issue under Delia, so I'd be surprised if that was the case. Some people are getting really vexed at the guy and he might be on the brink of signing. He doesn't seem like an overconfident ar*e to me, but I may be blinded by the glorious hair

No doubt Stuarts stock is high. That's high playing in a good team. His form has been a revelation after a season where he did not look like a footballer at all. It's a funny feeling but if he does move (and I hope he doesn't) I suspect a slide into mediocrity will occur. Hope he stays as part of a great team under Brendan.

I can hear your knickers squelching from here.

If hes after a top six club now is the time to do it, whilst they're listed alphabetically on null points. He will sign, I'm confident.
