Agree with the above. We let Ledley and Hooper enter the final 12 months of their deals. Hooper we got a decent some for but Ledley was pitiful.

If SA, has his sights set on down south or wants a ridiculous wage, punt.

Great season and all that but replaceable at the same time.

I don't think his stock down south would be massive what with coming from Scotland and his great games mostly in the half of one season. I think he's a smart boy and will see where he's well off (for the present at least). We could always do a sevco/Mckay - if you won't sign then you won't play.

Doesn't sign in the next month. Punt.
I'm not sure I'd even wait that long. Brendan's putting a face on it but I think there might be a problem. :twitch:

Hope I'm wrong, obviously. :(

He will probably sign but we should have made it clear in negotiations with his agent, that he needs to do so or go in this window.

It would be a huge gamble on his part, to think he will just stay, start talking to other teams from January and leave on a Bosman next summer. He could quickly fall out of favour and find himself back where he was at the start of the season. Someone would take him for sure but maybe not on the terms he would like.

Rodgers has re-invigorated him and he is bound to understand that you don't just move onto another club and it all falls into place automatically. There are lots of reasons why he may be better staying at Celtic and he has the insight to understand this.

Does he have an agent? There haven't really been that many reports of clubs looking to sign him. Normally when a player is negotiating a new deal there's 2 or 3 clubs "waiting in the wings" in case talks break down.

Good player who has blossomed under Rodgers and had a cracking season. Shouldn't forget he's 25 and this is probably his first stand-out season, and he still has plenty to work on. Still gives the ball away under no pressure (as witnessed with Scotland v England) and until Rodgers turned up he was drifting. Was probably more likely to end up back at Dundee United then, rather than an EPL club.

He's done well, though, so I'd prefer it if he stayed. If he's suddenly thinking he's one of our top salaried, indispensable players after that one good season, maybe we should dispense with him. I'm sure he'll do well under someone other than Rodgers if he's that good, but then again he might not.

His Dad is/was his agent. To my knowledge, that is still the case. I don't think he has brought in an agent recently, as many players seem to do if they want to get a move.

All the indications that I have heard, for what it is worth, are that a deal was pretty much agreed in outline before the end of the season. I've no idea what prevented him signing at that point, but the suggestion always was that he was more likely to sign than not.

Pretty clear to me that if he is good enough to do so, he'll want to play elsewhere in his career eventually, not necessarily in England. Let's hope its at least one or two years down the line.

He might be holding off to see who we sign.

If we strengthen in that area he might be concerned he becomes a peripheral player again.....

If he doesn't sign, despite the performances of last season then let him go to Burnley or whoever wants him.

He holds all the aces. Undoubtedly he'll have an idea of what he's worth down south and that could be anywhere between 50k and 70k per week on a 4 year deal.

He has won everything here with us. He has nothing else left to prove at Celtic. Maybe going further in Europe....maybe, but to want to do that we will have to make it worth his while.

He's 25, this deal and his next are the biggest of his career.....we have to make it worth his while.

Why the panic? Last we heard from Stuart he seemed to be keen to stay. Then he was on holiday. Calm down. Calm down.

It was his dad, not sure if that's still the case?

Anyone thinking we should punt this lad is mad.

Punt GMS and use the surplus to give Stuart a bump in his wages.

I want to see him in a Celtic Jersey for another few years yet

He is probably also waiting to see what kind of deal we offer any new singings. He won't want to commit to a wage deal and then have someone join the team on far better conditions I'd expect.

Nobody is 'wanting' to punt him.

What people are saying is that if he isn't going to sign a new deal we shouldn't let him enter the last year of his contract where he could sign a pre contract at the end of the year and leave for nothing.

If he isn't going to sign up we should cash in now and sign a replacement.

Don't think anyone particularly wants to punt him. The issue is that if talks continue during the season, there's a significant risk that the player will leave for a small fee/nothing.

Ideally he'll sign a new deal, but if not then the club should do their utmost to sell him this window.

He's not as replaceable as some seem to think, not cheap to get a midfielder who posses all the quality that Stuart does. I suggest some folk watch some of his performances from last season again.
