I'm at that age where the health folks want to investigate everything. After a recent rigorous "up periscope" examination, I vowed that I couldn't be "Martha". But come on Stuart, I'd take one for the team. :twitch:

He looks happy as Larry in the Celtic Facebook pics. I think he'll sign soon.

Meanwhile, Rodgers is ready to re-open contract talks with Stuart Armstrong.

After enjoying a superb season Armstrong, 25, has been in discussions with Celtic over an extension.

As yet both parties have yet to strike an agreement, with Armstrong’s current deal up at the end of the season.

Rodgers added: “I wanted to put it on the back burner towards the end of last season.

“I didn’t want any distractions, and there was a period of time when it wasn’t resolved. We put the contract talks on hold. Stuart had the Scotland game and a holiday, so I’m sure they will resume over the course of the season.

“Stuart had a brilliant campaign, he came on great strides last season. Contracts are always about length of time or finances, but I am pretty confident the club and the agent will come to an agreement.

“Stuart is happy here in this environment and he knows he is improving and developing so let’s wait and see. He’s someone I’m keen to keep.

“In his own mind he’s been through a tough couple of years, but now he has found a level of consistency and form.”

Uh-oh. As long as "the course of the season" only runs until 31st August.

Not like you to be pessimistic at all.

But there is something niggling me about this also. Armstrong is a very clever young man and will know exactly his worth down south. Or elsewhere. I think he could very easily adapt to the game abroad. Good enough technically and clever enough to adapt off field. See John Collins.

Really hope not though. He brings us a wee bit something that is hard to come by and really hope he stays

 Just being realistic. We shouldn't allow anyone to go into the last season of their contract unless it's absolutely unavoidable (or unless the player is Henrik Larsson).

There's obviously some disagreement between the club and the player's expectations here. Hopefully they sort it soon, but if not then the club needs to get the most it can.

It's about money and length of contract, as suspected and Rodgers' stance has shifted from talks tied up at end of season to resuming over course of new season.

Starting to sound ominous.

Get him out the door in August, if need be. We'll cope.

Had a great season last year but not irreplaceable. Like most are saying, if he's not signed up soon then should be punted asap.

Can only punt if he is prepared to be punted. He might not be. And the longer it goes on the more leverage the player has.

Considering retirement
[ * * * * * * * * * * * ]
Not normally too pessimistic but this one has dragged on a bit too long now.

Our approach to recruitment this summer seems largely to be to keep the best of what we have, the core of the team, and then add one or two of real quality.

I'd be happy with that policy if it meant keeping all of the major contributors, and Armstrong is clearly one of those.

If he has ambitions play down south I still think he'd be better served consolidating with at least another year at us having signed a new deal, and getting more European and international experience. The alternative is often to go down south and become peripheral like Snodgrass.

He's a bright lad. Still think when you weigh everything up he'll sign.

If he won't sign in July we should sell.

I love him as a player but if he's not signed that contract by the end of July I'd be alerting clubs down south that he's available for transfer.

Even with just a year left on his deal one of those mid-table EPL mobs will give us a decent fee.
