every contract under Rodgers has been pretty seamless and quick, even with Gordon he was happy to talk about how close it was. The complete silence on this one is worrying. He cant be allowed to leave for free so if there's no prospect of agreement he should be sold.

I think he'd be a massive loss if he went. I also think he'd regret it. He's the kind of player Brendan could build a team around, but elsewhere he might just fall back into the shadows.
As much as I rate him I suspect this as well - he could easily fall back into obscurity again with the wrong team.

But he'd be making 3 times what we'd pay him. Over 4 years that's a fair wedge

I've a feeling he'll go, really hope not though

Armstrong is an intelligent guy. The smart choice is to stay with us. Maybe not forever but certainly next year. No other club can offer him what we can. Some can offer him more of some things (money, quality of league) but no one can offer the package that we can. I am completely confident that he will stay

I've never really understood the attraction of playing for a bottom to mid table team in the EPL. Playing defensive football most of the time, working your nuts off to cling on with your fingernails for another season, where is the enjoyment in that? If players go ,it's for the cash, or they think it's a stepping stone to be in the shop window for other EPL clubs, which is quite risky, you could end up going nowhere and then your best years are over. Compare that to what could happen at Celtic over the next five or more years and to me our club is far more attractive.

He's also qualified to do the two things that earn the most money for the least amount of effort, football and law, and his football earning will pale into insignificance compared to his ludicrous legal charges when he retires from the footy.

Oh I could think of 1 or 40,000 reasons a week why people would go there.

Everyone likes to think they would strive to be the best player they could be to win things and improve but in reality people are people. Many players just view it as a job and would want to earn as much as possible as soon as possible anywhere they could.

At times like this, when good players have the chance to move on for disgusting amounts of money, very few of our players think like Celtic supporters. To us mortals, £10k/£15 a week is a huge amount of money when we'd play for nothing, if we'd ever had the chance. Players don't think like that.

Some go for huge fees VVD, Wanyama, Hooper, Forster and both them and Celtic do well. I doubt very many look back and even look out for our results.

Guys like Armstrong could do really well moving, and might retain a fondness for the club, but sadly modern footballers, once they're in football, see things very differently to the supporters. Clubs are a way to make money. Not much else. Honours and medals seem to matter very little. What medals have VVD, Wanyama, Hooper and Forster won since leaving us? They've made millions, do they actually give a flying feck?

I'd be sad to see Armstrong go, but I think it's a possibility. Others like Dembele, Jozo, KT and Griffiths will be getting phone calls from their agents every day. I think KT, is the only one who thinks like us.
I agree for the most part with what you are saying here but I think for a Scottish player it's a bit different than it is for a Wanyama or a Van Dijk.

If you look at Brown for example he knows exactly what it means to play and win trophies for Celtic despite not growing up a Celtic fan. If Armstrong is as smart as we all think he is then I think the sensible move for him would be to stay put. Sure he can make an extra 10k a week elsewhere but when his career is over it'll be the Champions League nights and title celebrations he will remember - not getting horsed 5-0 off Chelsea at home playing for West Brom :ph43r: Armstrong will have a job after his playing days are over in the media so there isn't necessarily a need for a cash grab in England if it stops him enjoying his football.

He also needs to be aware of the fact that prior to this season no club in the Premier League would have touched him. The Premier League is cut throat and if he has a few bad games he could find himself back in a position he was in 12 months ago. Is that a risk worth taking now? He'd be better building on the last 12 months here and if he fancies England having a go in a few years.
The issue is that it's not an extra 10k a week but probably an extra 40k a week. We're unlikely to pay him more than 25k tops but to a West Ham 60k is probably a fairly standard wage for someone in their first team squad.

He'd be daft if he left but he'd also be daft if he stayed.

As much as I kind of agree with the point about players go to England for money, I don't think that is just the case. Some of them go down there to test themselves against better players. Us in the Champions League is a comparison. We go into it not expecting to win it (just now, give Brendan another year or 2). We go there to compete against the best. Players go to England, yes for money, but also to play against Aguero, Fabregas, Zlatan even if the club they play for has no realistic chance of winning the league or competing for it.

To put it just down to money I think is wrong. It is a factor, a huge factor, but not the only reason

I hope Stuart stays but I think whether he does or not will depend on who is showing interest.

He has played in the SPL for around 6 seasons and that might be a major factor in him wanting to seek a new challenge. Add to that the vast increase in wages it starts to tip the balance in going. His wee pal GMS will more than likely be off this summer.

If he puts in a top performance against Engerland it will just increase the level of teams that will come calling.

He has just won everything there is to be won in Scotland but the Champions League is maybe the one thing that could keep him here.

A midfielder who bags a good few goals is a major asset and an EPL top six team might just take the chance on him, maybe not Chelsea, Man City or Man U, but I could see him going to the others.

Don't think GMS will have any bearing on his decision at all.

I rate him very highly, but can't see any top six team in the EPL paying big bucks for him on the back of one good season.
Hope it gets sorted soon.

I hope it gets sorted as well, but in relative terms they wouldn't be paying what the EPL consider 'Big Bucks', so he could be worth a punt for some of them. Not every player they buy is for £20m plus.
