If I'm Armstrong and I'm 25, I'm thinking two more good seasons at Celtic then move abroad. eff England.
:ponder:

If I'm Armstrong I'm thinking (hopefully like any player with half a brain in our squad) - stay for 10iar and become a football legend

He's been really great for us this season and hopefully the delay in him signing up was down to preparation for the cup final.

Can't help thinking that there must still be something to iron out, if he wants to stay and the deal is right it would have been signed, no need to wait until after the cup final.

The ball is definitely with SA, the way he played in the second half showed his determination, skill and energy.

Hopefully he will sign next week.
Last week was about the Lions, this week should be about the InVIncibles and then next week should be about SA.

At times like this, when good players have the chance to move on for disgusting amounts of money, very few of our players think like Celtic supporters. To us mortals, £10k/£15 a week is a huge amount of money when we'd play for nothing, if we'd ever had the chance. Players don't think like that.

Some go for huge fees VVD, Wanyama, Hooper, Forster and both them and Celtic do well. I doubt very many look back and even look out for our results.

Guys like Armstrong could do really well moving, and might retain a fondness for the club, but sadly modern footballers, once they're in football, see things very differently to the supporters. Clubs are a way to make money. Not much else. Honours and medals seem to matter very little. What medals have VVD, Wanyama, Hooper and Forster won since leaving us? They've made millions, do they actually give a flying feck?

I'd be sad to see Armstrong go, but I think it's a possibility. Others like Dembele, Jozo, KT and Griffiths will be getting phone calls from their agents every day. I think KT, is the only one who thinks like us.

I think he'd be a silly boy to move this summer. He's had a superb season after a slow start and is working with a manager who clearly has had an effect on his performances. He's still in his early 20's, just finishing his degree (suspect he might fancy a post grad)so signing a new 3 year deal on double his current wages does absolutely nothing to affect his long term ambitions. It's not as if an EPL club would only be interested in him if he continues his current form if he was out of contract.

He doesn't strike me as the impulsive type, I'd be surprised if he doesn't sign a new deal. Continue improving (including in the CL where he looked a bit out of his depth this season) and see where he stands next year or the year after.

I think Wanyama and the rest of the Spurs squad are hugely disappointed that they didn't win anything this season.

Doubt Forster was delighted to lose the Cup Final either.

It's the out of contract bit that's the worry, though.

He could become our contemporary version of J Collins :twitch:

I feel it in my bones too that he fancies a shot at the EPL - I have no info just call it women's intuition.

If he plays well against England I'd expect some bids to come in.

I think he'll sign. He'd be mad to leave just now given the improvements he has made under Rodgers and given the momentum of the club under Rodgers. And the reality is that if he won't sign he'll need to leave now.

I agree for the most part with what you are saying here but I think for a Scottish player it's a bit different than it is for a Wanyama or a Van Dijk.

If you look at Brown for example he knows exactly what it means to play and win trophies for Celtic despite not growing up a Celtic fan. If Armstrong is as smart as we all think he is then I think the sensible move for him would be to stay put. Sure he can make an extra 10k a week elsewhere but when his career is over it'll be the Champions League nights and title celebrations he will remember - not getting horsed 5-0 off Chelsea at home playing for West Brom :ph43r: Armstrong will have a job after his playing days are over in the media so there isn't necessarily a need for a cash grab in England if it stops him enjoying his football.

He also needs to be aware of the fact that prior to this season no club in the Premier League would have touched him. The Premier League is cut throat and if he has a few bad games he could find himself back in a position he was in 12 months ago. Is that a risk worth taking now? He'd be better building on the last 12 months here and if he fancies England having a go in a few years.

every contract under Rodgers has been pretty seamless and quick, even with Gordon he was happy to talk about how close it was. The complete silence on this one is worrying. He cant be allowed to leave for free so if there's no prospect of agreement he should be sold.

This. As good as he is, a couple of seasons under Brendan will make him better.
The sad thing with players leaving is they don't realise what they've left until they have.
Very few do better than Celtic.

but it's not really complete silence, is it? Brendan Rodgers said the talks had been put on hold for ten days so's not to interfere with Cup Final preparations, and that he expected things to be concluded fairly swiftly thereafter. The opposite of " complete silence " really.

Conversely he may think it won't get any better than this at Celtic, he's 25, out of contract in 1 year and won't cost clubs a fortune.

He could pick up serious wedge down there with the potential for lots more cash should get get a move or extension.

I hope he's staying for a couple of years at least but something tells me he knows his worth and might fancy a shot at the EPL.

he's developed immensely in this year as part of a BR team where he can trust the others in it to deliver

he should give serious thought to what life looks like out in the wilderness beyond celtic park and BR

and sign

and i believe he will cause he's not a daft boy

I think he'd be daft not to sign a new deal, he's not even had a full season starting in midfield under Rodgers. He can develop even further next season. Would be a real shame if that further development potential is thrown away because of money.

If he does leave us, where's he going really? Bournemouth? Huddersfield? effing West Ham :lmao: ?

I realise money talks but he can do so much better than the dregs of the EPL.

Alternatively he can stay and be a hero.

I think he'd be a massive loss if he went. I also think he'd regret it. He's the kind of player Brendan could build a team around, but elsewhere he might just fall back into the shadows.

As much as I rate him I suspect this as well - he could easily fall back into obscurity again with the wrong team.
